Thank you PC Specialist for NOT installing the usual junk!

I think the second thing that impressed me the most, just behind the lovely laptop I'm now using, is the fact that PC Specialist haven't bowed to the usual commercial crap of installing 1,001 browser toolbars, giving us the option of not installing demo / test versions of unwanted junk, and there is no "PC manufacturer utilities that duplicate loads of Windows functionality, implemented in a TellyTubby style UI" <glares at Dell & HP>

So, thank you guys and gals for providing a laptop with just Windows, and a driver CD that just contains the required drivers and no crap!

Nice one :D

The worst thing about companies that do include all this junk, the people that make this software always like to have their update checker as a windows service!

And then we wonder why there are 200+ services and > 2000 threads running when you have a look in task manager, when the PC should be doing nothing.

And trying to uninstall them all, you never actually know if you've got them all. I've seen Dell software that was so badly written that when it was operating behind a company firewall that it couldn't get through, it tried three times, waited a couple of seconds, tried three times again, ad infinitum. And that was the service left behind after uninstalling the software.

Also Dell, HP and Sony customise the Windows install DVDs so that a fresh install includes all the junk, you can't use their install media and not get it.

So to receive a Windows install disc that's had the browser homepage customised, and that's it, truly a breath of fresh air!

If you want a pure Windows install disc, you can download it directly from Microsoft (this is by the by, of course, but just in case anyone reading is interested).
