Hi, after playing Crysis 3 and seeing how much hot my laptop got playing it (Vortex lll, 3610qm, 675m) I decided to reapply the thermal paste to both my CPU and GPU.
At first, everything seemed fine. My GPU temps went from 95 degrees to 75 and my CPU was maxing out at 65 degrees.
The problem is when my CPU is idle. While before it never went above 50 degrees, now it slowly climbs to 60 degrees before the fan kicks in, brings it down to 40 and then repeats the process. I'm not sure what I've done wrong, I wiped off the old paste, have applied a thin and even amount to the CPU and the heatsink has been re-seated properly. The only thing I can think of is that a thin thermal pad at the edge of the heatsink came off during the process, but I didn't think much of it.
