I would suggest at least silver warranty, upgrading the wireless card and 750gb scorpio black

Also, consider getting an nvidia card such as the 870m or 880m as the AMD card doesn't run some games very well.

I've just ordered a relatively similar spec laptop. Here's the spec:

I'd consider going for a higher clock speed on your CPU, upping the RAM to 16 and getting a GeForce GTX graphics card. The 880M is, from what I've read the most powerful laptop GFX card available and runs 2014 games relatively easily.

If you can afford it, get an SSD - they load games so fast, although some don't trust them yet (in reality they are absolutely fine). I didn't get an SSD, but I plan to. I never understood why they charge more for a shiny screen, who the hell wants a shiny screen.

Mine is arriving within 5 days, I'll let you know what it's like.

Funnily enough I've ordered a 500gb 5,400RPM disk - thought I'd chosen a 7,200 750gb - better change that!

16gb ram and higher clock speed for gaming? I don't think there will be a difference compare to the i7-4710mq and 8gb ram. I haven't noticed a noticeable improvement in loading times for games between an SSD and a caviar black.

Interesting - that's the feedback I got when I asked about running dayz on the dayz forums. Not the most demanding game I realise, but it was suggested I wouldn't be able to run on max settings without a higher clock speed (higher than the 2.8 I've ordered). I work with a couple of guys who have SSD's and they said loading up games was loads faster on an SSD.

Meh, who knows. There's loads of opinions about this stuff - I haven't been into PC gaming for a long long time, so I'm still new to it myself. Just thought I'd share the comments I had received on my setup.

Just to add - I use an SSD in my macbook pro for work, and it's incredibly fast compared to the HDD I had before. I run 4 VM's and OXS mavericks, and reliability has been absolutely fine. So while I don't personally have experience with gaming on an SSD, working on one has made a huge difference.

At the moment no one can run dayz on highest, it's not very well optimised and is in early stages. It's best to have a small SSD (120gb or 240gb) with windows and other applications on and then a HDD with all your games, media etc on. SSDs are still quite expensive and should just have your main programs on, as long as you have windows on there then it'll be quicker :)

Yeah I did hear that basically nobody can run it on high, after I had the initial comments. My plan was to get myself a small-ish SSD and run Win 7 on that, and have all my personal stuff on an HDD.

Exactly the way I do it as well on my desktop. I noticed in your spec you have the default HDD, I would strongly recommend changing it to the scorpio black HDD.

Yep - I've just changed it to 120GB SSD for the OS, and a 750GB scorpio black for the rest
