Hey guys. I have ordered a Vortex III 15 inch laptop and want to upgrade the ram from 4gb to 16gb (I will sell the 4gb). I am wondering if the following will fit as from the looks of it I need a 1600mhz speed pair?

http://www.ebuyer.com/407265-corsair-16gb-ddr3-1600mhz-laptop-memory-cmso16gx3m2a1600c11

I hope someone can help me as soon as so that I can order the correct one. I want to ensure the timings are right and that there won't be any major problems :)

Thanks!

You could just order new RAM from PCS, then you will definitely get the right type :)

Hey thanks for the response!

Do you mean as an upgrade? I actually thought I could get a better deal if I purchased it separately. Just wondered if anyone could recommend and cheap'ish 1600mhz ram that worked.

if you already ordered the laptop you could use the upgrade service to get more ram.

Do you mean as an upgrade or separate?

Either, you could get them to upgrade it for you, or just order it separately and install yourself, presuming you bought the laptop from them in the first place.

Hey. Yeah the order is being 'built' at the moment. Like you say I could just buy it from a third party and have no problems installing it, I would just like to know what specs of the ram in the vortex. I believe it'a a CL9 unbuffered ram module? so would a CL10 or CL11 work if the speed is the same?

Hey, I upgraded my RAM to these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CMX...9Q5A/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1354641272&sr=8-6

I fitted them myself and the BIOS picked them up instantly without me having to do anything else and have had no problems with them whatsoever

Hey. Thanks! I think I might give the normal Corsair's a go!

It's a fair bit cheaper than the Corsair Vengeance set. Would there be a big performance difference between the two?

I'm no expert but reading the specs of those you posted I see they are 204 pin So dimm which are the same fit as the vengeance ones so should be compatible with a Vortex III.

No idea about the performance difference i'm afraid mate, that would be for some of the better informed folks who use these forums to comment on, but if you are gaming etc then 16GB of 1600MHz is more than enough so not sure if you would see any noticeable difference at all

Good luck :)

I doubt you would notice any difference in performance, but 4x4gb should work out cheaper.

do you think I would ever need over 16gb ram? And what for? I do photoshop work, and 3d work and video sometimes. Would I be best to get 2x8gb and leave two ports free? I was actually going to sell the 4gb ram that comes with the laptop but I MIGHT just leave it in and have 20gb ram :D Would that work ok? one 4gb stick of samsung and 2x8gb corsair?

16GB ram should be enough even for video editing.
It's possible to use different sized ram modules I've done it myself, some sources claim it can affect performance though and I can't say for sure it would work well or if at all on your system.

I've just had a think about it and to be honest there's really no need for me to go beyond 16gb for now. I will stick with that and sell on the 4gb stick for whatever I get for it.

I ordered my 128gb SSD today :D Cant wait! Even though it will probably take at least a week to get it despatched even though it said it had been built today on DAY 1!

also does the HDMI work ok with the 7970m graphics card? I remember reading something about the clevo and a 7970m card now being compatible to display through the hdmi connection? Is this true?
