Hey all

I'm looking for a good 24 or 27" monitor to pair with my new build. Budget is anything up to £400

Build is a Ryzen 3600XT with a GTX 1660 Super, 16GB 3200 ram. B550 motherbord with m.2 NVMe & SSD storage.

It's gonna be used mainly for work (internet, MS office, and adobe apps) with some occasional 1080p gaming. (mainly shooters, beat em ups, & driving games)

I've narrowed it down to the following three

1. AOC GAMING 24G2U 24"
2. ASUS TUF GAMING VG249Q 24"
3. LG ULTRAGEAR 27G L650F 27"

now for the questions.

1. Which would you choose from the above (if any) based on the build?
2. Is it worth going to entry or mid level 1440p? would I get a better 1080p image.
3, Does 144hz have any benefit in day to day tasks (scrolling web pages, spreadsheets, for example)

Let me know what you think guys

thanks

Cool thanks.

They're all very good monitors.

For me though, I'm a real fan of LG, they make their own panels and as such are usually able to give quite a big discount on really premium products.

There's a decent review by eBuyer here on the LG:

The only negative would be that it's 27" so you're going to notice pixelation more than on a 24" (which is the optimum pixel to size ratio on 1080p). But as he states in his review, it still holds up extremely well and if you're not looking at competitive stuff, then you probably won't even notice it.

The LG monitor actually uses an AUO panel (A lot of brands tend to use them).

LG switched a lot of orders to AUO.

bit like Samsung have Innolux panels at times.

Also Samsung had LG supplying them panels for TV’s (Blame Sharp).

for LG look at their Nano IPS screens.

So what would you choose from the above 3?

Personally, I would not be ordering a 1660 with 3060 around the corner (thats simply my opinion and it’s the card I am going for).

The AOC one gets good reviews, however it uses a Panel made by Panda (getting acquired by BOE).

the fact it uses a Chinese panel puts me off.

Which leave the ASUS Tuf, and guess what panel that uses, yep the Panda panel. (Both likely same panels but different different boards etc)

note, both get decent reviews, I am just finicky on monitors.

if not wanting to wait for a 3060 and. 1440, then consider the following alternative monitors.

Acer XB253QGP

BenQ EX2510

both are 24” 144hz.

The BenQ is around £230 mark and ACER about £50-£60 more.

I would however look at cost of card you selected and cost of monitor and then compare to 3060 price and 1440 monitor.

when you come to upgrade, chances are it’s the video card will push the upgrade and then you have a fully working monitor ‘holding you back’.

The other reason I do not like the LG, it’s a 27” 1080p.

Thanks for the input. Gonna stick with the 1660S and 1080p as gaming will be secondary for the time being.

That being said I ended up pulling the trigger on the EX2510 i'll share my thoughts on it when it arrives.
