To overclock or not?

Another question for me is whether I should get my build over-clocked?

Many people said on here that it's pointless for gaming and that it can be detrimental to the life of your CPU.

I will be mainly using the computer for studying, writing essays and gaming, so please someone put this to rest.

If it takes the life away, I don't want to, if it's no harm but pointless for my needs then I will refrain from doing so.

No need, doesnt really do any harm if you know what your doing but no point wasting time finding everything out if you wont actual need it.

My way of looking at it, there's nothing wrong with more power if you're happy knowing that the hardware will have a shorter life span. You can say that it has little performance in games etc, but that's what it is, better performance - however big/small/needed and most of all desired :)
