Tomb Raider FPS advice please

Hi all, just bought Tomb Raider (2013) on Steam today (£5.99 bargain!).

I'm brand new to PC gaming, been using consoles for years so I'm used to just throwing the disc in and playing.

I put Tomb Raider onto "Ultimate" settings and benchmarked it using the in game tool and got an average 39FPS (30 min/ 49 max). It looked really good!

I gather FPS is all important so is this sufficient FPS to play the game or do I need to drop the settings to "Ultra" where I got an average of 60FPS? The only difference seems to be the movement of her hair!?

I'm running a Vortex IV with 4gb AMD8970, i7 4800 if this info is needed.

Hey Thorthor,

Indead tomb raider is an amazing game and beautiful to look at on high settings, it is very graphics hungry though so you might need to tweek your settings. I usually start on Ultra and start working my way down till i get acceptable results.

If you turn off TresFX (her realistic hair) you will get betterh FPS

Turn down things like AA and lighting affects etc should save you some FPS.

I think that most console games run at about 30fps, so yes, the fps you are getting is playable. However it will look a lot smoother if you get it up to about 60fps, like Smoke said, the hair will make a pretty big difference.

Cheers for the info. TresFX is a setting just for hair eh? Amazing!

I'll play it at Ultimate settings and drop the TresFX and see what it's like in game then drop to Ultra if required. Thanks again!

That's really good!

I just ran the benchmark on my rig and had min fps: 58.6, max 118.7, average 91.2.

Shame they didn't make the benchmark a bit more exciting.

I wish all games could do a benchmark. I would love that feature!
