Trading rig - up to £1700

Hi all

I use four monitors dvi and vga ports on them. I ordered the below spec. I also run thinkorswim software and several internet browsers and streaming data daily.
I also run visual studio for software coding.
Do these specs look sufficient? I’m not a gamer but want to ensure this rig will have little lag during the day and not slow me down. Speed is important and ability to run 4 monitors.

I think I paid approx £1200 for this but can pay more for additional performance, up to an extra 500£

Hi all

I use four monitors dvi and vga ports on them. I ordered the below spec. I also run thinkorswim software and several internet browsers and streaming data daily.
I also run visual studio for software coding.

I'd recommend cancelling and reordering with an AMD CPU. You also need up your PSU.

It's not possible to amend to AMD as it's an entirely different platform on a different configurator. You'd need to cancel your current build and reorder.

AMD are streets ahead of Intel at the moment and will be for some time to come.

In fact Intels 11th gen chips perform WORSE than their 10th Gen chips in most use cases. They've hit a brick wall and are in real trouble for the next 2 years at least but likely longer.

What resolution are the monitors? Or make and model if you're unsure?

DVI and VGA aren't used anymore, it's HDMI and DisplayPort, so if you wanted to keep the same monitors, then you'd need to use adapters.

Acer p225 hq bd. I am ok with getting adapters

This is higher on the budget, but a far superior build overall. The 5800x will be around the same at single core performance than the Intel, but SIGNIFICANTLY more powerful at multitasking which is what your build is focussing on more with multiple browsers etc. The cooling is also far superior generally. I've swapped the GPU for a professional GPU which is better designed for multiple monitors. It can cope with 4 x 4k screens, and you'll find quite shortly, you'll want to upgrade those screens, they're pretty restrictive at 1080p these days. Even a lot of web stuff is now restricted on 1080p. It won't be long before higher res is required. One 4k screen has the real estate of 4 x 1080p screens. This card will have you covered should you wish to upgrade to something better in the future. I've also upped the RAM as 16Gb may be a little on the thin side, for the uses you mention, you may well benefit from more.

I've used Startech products quite extensively in business applications and always found them very reliable. The price is good also for an active adapter (often they're hugely inflated as quite specialist).

Or if you wanted to use DVI on the monitors instead (which would be better as no signal conversion) then these would be better:

Thanks for the build. The original graphics card Radeon 580 was chosen because it was in stock. I believe there’s an issue right now with GPUs.

If I bumped up the cpu and the ram on my original order would I still have a far inferior machine to your build?

Yes. The 5800x utterly destroys anything Intel has on their desktop lineup.

Intel literally can't compete at all.

It's not just performance though, as in the link above, it's more about inherent security failures and poor features on the motherboards.

They're years behind AMD.

They're totally different cards.

You don't need any graphical power at all, you're just outputting a picture. What you need is high max resolution ie how many screens it can support.

The professional card is lower powered in raw output power, but supports higher resolutions for multiple displays. It's significantly cheaper to obtain better results for your application.

The stock issues only affects gaming cards, not professional cards.

It’s a professional card so has better support for the purposes you’re intending.

It’s designed for professional applications whereas the one you had selected was a gaming card which is completely irrelevant for your use case.
