Turbo Boost Enigma

Hey there, I was just wondering about activating Turbo boost on my Intel Core i7 2630QM. I can't find any options for it in the BIOS.

Thanks in advance!

It's an automatic feature, you don't activate it. When the CPU recognises it's under stress and needs to run faster it overclocks itself. It automatically downclocks again when it's no longer needed or the CPU gets too hot. As far as I know there's no way to control it manually.

Hmm, when I looked it up, I saw that it was something that needs to be turned on in the BIOS, but these were generally older posts/articles. Was this the case at one point?

A friend of mine who has an i7 2600K had an option, that called itself Turbo and turning this on produced a significant boost in performance, though this may have been an overclocking feature built into the motherboard rather than Intel's.

I have an Optimus II with i7 2630qm and I thought I will activate turbo boost to see how the laptop will perform. I also have seen posts that it needs to be activated, but isn't that mainly for desktops?

I downloaded Intel Turbo Boost Technology Monitor 2.0 and it showed that when the CPU is at idle, it is in the energy saver mode. When I start to render a video, it said turbo boost and the CPU is at 2.6ghz - so it is using Turbo Boost without needing to activate it.
