This is a resume from the last three years
Linux cygnus 6.0.0-gentoo #4 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Mon Oct 17 02:24:11 CEST 2022 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8250U CPU @ 1.60GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
Battery 0: design capacity 3000 mAh, last full capacity 2186 mAh = 72%
Battery 0: Discharging, 87%, 04:01:00 remaining
The battery reports a discharge rate of 7.54 W
The energy consumed was 210 J
The estimated remaining time is 4 hours, 1 minutes
The battery does not allow battery thresholds of charging/discharging and this is a bad news, this made me lost near 900 mAh by the heat generated when the charge is high. I bought a socket with timer to force periodically a cutoff
The battery information is inexistent and makes hard to find remplace parts and even batteries with bigger capacity
cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/model_name
BAT
cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/serial_number
0001
cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/manufacturer
Notebook
Power saving policies could be applied to almost all notebook with the exception of the SATA rotation disk
which have troubles if power link is applied
echo 'med_power_with_dipm' > /sys/class/scsi_host/host0/link_power_management_policy
If you apply the line of above the notebook shutsdown unexpectly
In kernels prior to 6.0 there are troubles to send to sleep (suspend to RAM) and to hibernate (suspend to disk)
Now in suspend to RAM the consumption is about 1 wh and is not as stable as it should
From his 32 GB RAM, near half are destinated to tmpfs, this protects SSD from unnecessary writes prolonging his life and reduces too energy consumption prolonging battery charge
Between others is written in RAM, cachés , and directories as /run, /var/tmp/portage, /tmp etc, directories with redundance writes
The SSD state obtained with: nvme smartlog /dev/nvme0n1 is:
available_spare : 100%
available_spare_threshold : 10%
percentage_used : 0%
endurance group critical warning summary: 0
This is thankfully that logs (/var/log) are written to in rotational SATA not ssd and even with the two disks crypted
Until now all hardware support with this kernel is ok.
specter-meldown-checker tells me that my system is vulnerable to 15 attacks
but all are solved by mitigations through microcode. The performance with them applied is not bad
If you want more data only ask.
