Unrecognised USB Controller - no driver found

I have a PC (from PCSpecialist) where after a failure in which Windows 7 was completely reinstalled, I have ended up with an unknown/errored device.

It is listed as a USB controller under Other devices.

I have tried using the Z8M-PLUS dvd to reinstall the drive - none found.

Then I phoned PCSpecialist, and after hanging on for over 20 minutes (timed) until the phone was answered, I was told it must be the USB3 port and given a link to download.
This turned out to be exactly the same as the drivers I had tried already from the dvd - and even with the downloaded drivers - none worked.

I then tried deleting the device, and install new hardware ..... same result: unknown device.

The PC has a ASUS® Z87M-PLUS: m-ATX, USB3.0, SATA 6.0, XFIRE motherboard - and actually the USB ports seem to be OK
But I still have no idea what this device may be

Is it even a USB Controller at all? Is it being mis-recognised?

I do get a warning every reboot about something working faster if connected to a USB3 port ..... but this could perhaps refer to the mouse plugged into a USB2 port?
In system device manager I do have USB3 XHC and Root Hub ....

I also have a Renesas USB 3.0 Host Controller Utility Program which seems to be installed - but I don't know what it does or whether running it will make things worse or better.

Anybody have any ideas / solutions for this ???

TIA

I'd suggest going direct to ASUS website and downloading the latest drivers from there, see if that makes a difference.

Did you say you'd tried all of the USB ports and they're all ok? Do you have a USB 3.0 device to try them with?
