Is it possible? I've got 17' Vortex 2 with 485m GTX if one day there will be this SLI available or some other like 580m, would that be possible to upgrade it by sending it back to PCSpecialist? Just wondering.. cheers!

We can upgrade the GTX 485M to a GTX 580M for you, but you would have to purchase a GTX 580M and sell on the GTX 485M yourself. There would also be a small labour fee and collection/return charges.

Does this also apply for any other component upgrade/addition? (ram, SSD, CPU, screen replacement?). I believe that personal/manual/unassisted upgrades will void the warranty. Could you elaborate on the labour charges and transport fees a bit? An overall approximation would be greatly appreciated.

@PCS would this also apply to desktop upgrades? That PCS could upgrade desktops for a fee etc?

Upgrading just about any component, from the CPU to HDD to screen is relatively easy, reasonably priced and straightforward. Upgrading the GPU is harder because you will need to remove the existing GPU and we would have to order in a new GPU specially for you. We don't hold stock of the GPUs separately.

Normally we charge a £36 collection and re-delivery charge and them you would need to pay for the GPU - at todays rates this would be approx. £560 inc VAT for the 580M.

Thanks for the very swift reply. Sorry to the op for hijacking the thread.

My upgrade would probably be extra 3gb gtx 580, upgrade on psu from 750w to 1000W. upgrade warranty. But would be dropping off/picking up. Would be happy to do it myself, but rather pcs do it, for the warranty on extra parts etc.

So even a relatively easy upgrade such as RAM and HDD will require the customer to send the computer back to the retailer and not attempt it himself in order to not void the warranty? The warranty is the one that concerns me and I need a solid confirmation. Thank you!

We would be happy to post out RAM/HDD to you to upgrade yourself without voiding the warranty. Please note this extract from our FAQ section:

Will I void my warranty if I open the case and install my own components?
Unlike with most computer manufacturers, we allow you to open the case and install your own components. Providing you install these correctly, and you do not damage your computer during or as a result of installing your own components, your warranty will still be valid. We do not provide any method of support for these components, both during installation or in use, and any warranty returns that are caused by your own components will be chargeable for both labour and return costs. If you have to return your computer to us for any reason we strongly recommend the prior removal of these components, as we cannot be held responsible for them.

Basically - we will support the upgrades we supply, and your warranty will stand providing you don't damage your computer as a result of the upgrade.

Happy days, would this void the warranty though?
