USB 3.0 Issues

Hi there,

Recently received my Vortex 2 laptop from PCS, which has been running great so far. However, Only the two USB 2.0 ports appear to be usable for me. Plugging my I/O devices like my mouse or my joystick into the two USB 3.0 ports seems to do nothing. The mouse receives power when the computer is started up, turning its LEDs on, but after a few seconds the power is cut. Switching the mouse to the USB 2.0 ports makes it work again. Same for my X52 joystick. Could this be a driver issue? Anybody know how to deal with it?

Thanks!

looks like a bit more google searching was all i needed. It was indeed a driver/firmware update that was needed. I'll assume that only I had this problem, but if anybody else needs help just reply and ill post the drivers that i downloaded :)

nope you're not alone, mines a desktop though, the 2 USB 3.0's do that exact same as what yours did :/ what drivers did you install? :)

Using the advice posted here (http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/565296-usb-3-0-problem-p170hm.html) I installed the following two firmware + driver updates:

http://www.station-drivers.com/tele..._firmware-302708(www.station-drivers.com).exe

http://www.station-drivers.com/tele...as_usb3_2.0.34.0(www.station-drivers.com).exe

I'm really not sure if the firmware and driver updates are specific to the USB3 controller on the Clevo P170hm (sold as the Vortex II - 17 on PCS) or not. I installed the firmware update first and then the driver update, restarted, and USB3.0 ports worked perfectly. Let me know if it works!

Just to clarify, the Vortex II & Clevo P170hm are both rebranded names, the manufacturer is actually Compal, I'm not sure of the chassis/motherboard number for that model. e.g. My Enigma i7 is actually the Compal NBLB2.

Compal have a good driver download site but you'll need to know the model number, it should be on the sticker on the underside of the laptop. Mine says Model: BLB2 (but is identified on their website as NBLB2).

The drivers for download on Compals website are the same as provided on the disc that came with your laptop but the compal website gets updated with newer drivers of course!

http://ftp.compal.com/asp/driver_dnd/ is the site address, use the menu on the left to navigate to your chassis there.

Hope that was useful to someone!

To confirm, the Vortex II chassis are not manufactured by Compal. They are manufactured for us by Clevo, to our requirements. End users are not able to purchase directly from Compal or Clevo.
