USB 3.0 Port issues / failing

I have yet another problem with my Vortex IV. for around about a month now one of the USB 3.0 ports has been having issues, very slow transfer speeds to any device (USB2 or USB3) and most devices plugged into this port are failing to be recognised by windows. I'm running windows 8.1 and all other USB3 ports are functioning correctly.

I have tried reinstalling the drivers however can only find windows 7 drivers on the intel website and on the PCS download section. It's only one port that's the issue, with it being a laptop its quite important that all USB ports work correctly as I only have 4 of them.

Is this something PCS would need to look at or do you think its something I'll need to try and fix myself?

I have read (but have no experience if it works) that doing a static discharge can remedy the problem.
You need to take the battery out and plug the mains plug to a switchable socket that is OFF i.e. the laptop is plugged in but not powered. Then hold down the ON button for 30 seconds. Then replace the battery and switch power back on.

I've never heard of that before, but I tried it like you suggested, I did it before i'd switched the laptop on at all today, tried your suggestion and tested a few transfers to and from and in different ports and it seems to be okay at the moment, I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens :)

I'm wondering if the fact that it's a powered USB port has anything to do with it

I appreciate the intention to rep ST, don't know if it's broken but nothing showed up.

Did it again

Thanks SpyderTracks, still not showing, maybe it's delayed for 24 hours. No big problem.
On the subject of static discharge i used it successfully on a desktop a few years ago to re-animate a "lost" card reader. I also know someone who's laptop battery stopped being detected and the same thing worked in this case. It's a good trick when all else fails anyway.

Definitely something worth noting. Looks like your rep has updated now as well :)
