usb/phone connection to Optimus V

Hi - When trying to connect to my Iphone the USB connections seems to connect and reconnect constantly? I have tried with my partners Samsung phone which also does that same, making me think its a software/usb issue. I have uninstalled and re installed iTunes and all associated programs and drivers. Any ideas???

Is it all the USB ports? Does it happen with any other devices (external harddrives/usb drives etc.)?
