Usb sound

So,
I sent my laptop back to pcs due to touch pad and earphone issues (had only had the laptop for less than a week). It's the 15.6'' vortex iv le.
I got the laptop back yesterday and so far the previous issues seem to be resolved.
However it now seems to have an issue it didn't have before. It randomly makes the sound that is made when you plug in and then remove a usb device. There is nothing plugged in to any of the usb slots, however it has made that sound at me about 10 times today, including twice when I first turned the laptop on. It's very annoying because if I'm listening to the radio on the internet and it does that noise, it stops the radio and I have to refresh the page :(
What could be causing it to make that noise, and how can I fix it?
Win 7 64 bit home premium by the way. Thanks

The sounds you describe are the default Windows sounds for "device disconnect" and "device connect". As you say, usually you hear them when connecting/disconnecting USB devices, but they apply to any device. If there is nothing plugged in then a device inside may be disconnecting and reconnecting.

Try opening up device manager (Control Panel > Device Manager) and expand all the sections so you can see all devices. The device manager responds (usually) in real time as devices are connected/disconnected so you may be able to see the display change as whatever device it is connects/disconnects. Then you might be able to figure out why. It's possible there may be a loose cable inside for example.

When you talk about having to refresh the page to get the radio back it's clear that the TCP connection to the radio streaming server must have dropped, refreshing the page re-establishes it. Do you loose other Internet connectivity at the same time? It might be the wifi card that's disconnecting and reconnecting? Take a close look at that in the device manager.
