Vortex 3 7970M Driver

Okay so I got this new monitor, ASUS VG236 120Hz 3D and I can not change the refresh rate to 120, see this thread: http://www.pchelpforum.com/xf/threads/how-to-enable-120hz-on-asus-vg236.139938/

So I started uninstalling the AMD Display driver. When I uninstall it from Windows Uninstal a program, it gives me an error as soon as I click Change. When I run the driver setup, it comes up with errors when uninstalling. I ran driver sweeper, and deleted the files. I deleted the folder in the C: drive where I think the driver was installed. Even then AMD is still in my program list and I can not remove it. I tried installing Catalyst mobility 64 (that is the link for 7970M when you go the AMD dirver download) nothing... happens. Then I DLed the catalyst 12.9.beta that installed with errors. Then I did a system restore to before I did all this, and now when I right click on desktop and click Switchable Graphics or Graphics Properties, nothing happens. I went to play a game and Im 100% sure it wasnt using my 7970M like it usually did before. How can I fix this, and how can I make it so I can see the 120Hz setting for my monitor refresh rate?

Hi there.

Right buddy, you require a D-DVI cable to run a 120hz monitor or a display port cable, however Intel graphics do not support 120hz neither will the 7970M due to Enduro.

So I am afraid you will be running at 60hz.

You may have to do a a full re-install of windows to get rid of the driver faf.

Regards.

C.

But my card is capable of 3D, and should be capable of 120Hz... What is the actual problem, what change will allow me to get 120Hz. Do I need a 3D 120Hz monitor that is meant for AMD cards? The cable I have should be D-DVI I think, surely looks like one. Does the Vortex 3 not have a working connector/port for D-DVI? Also can someone tell if it;s possible (either by myself, by sending it to pcs or another computer/laptop repair) to change the 7970M in my laptop and put a GeForce Nvidia card in (would that allow me to have 120Hz)?

Another words, is it:
a. The Vortex 3 doesn't have D-DVI port? (only a simple HDMI and DVI which can only carry a 60Hz - 75Hz signal)
b. The graphics card needs to be a recent Nvidia?
c. I need a monitor that provides 3D to AMD cards? This is one only works with Nvidia.

:D Thanks

Okay when I reinstall windows, how should I install my driver for the 7970M? Should I still use the driver from the Unitilities CD? Isn't that really old now?
Should use the 12.9Beta? Or download the catalyst mobility? Would that install the driver for the onboard Intel graphics too? Or should I install the driver from the Clevo website?

According to AMD the 7900M series supports Stereoscopic 3D and has a Dual-link DVI port and display port you can use to connect to a 3D monitor.

If using DVI connection you would need to check you have a dual link cable. If not you will need to check the DVI ports on the card and your monitor are dual link DVI-D or dual link DVI-I as the male connection of a Dual link DVI-D cable will fit into a dual link DVI-I port, but a dual link DVI-I cable connection wont fit into a dual link DVI-D port,so basically a dual link DVI-D cable will do.Have a look at the "Connector" diagram here to see what I mean.

I can only assume your card is capable of passive 3D which works on 60hz,so may not be capable of running the monitor at 120hz,I can't find any definite answer to this though.

Considering it's new newest AMD graphics card out I find that hard to believe, and very upsetting if actually true. What about my previous question tho? Is there a monitor which can work on 120Hz with a AMD card? And if it is the card, can I get PCS or someone else to change my GPU with an Nvidia one?

You should be able to use the upgrade service and replace the HD 7970m with the GTX 680m.

Best phone PCS to see if they can give you a definite answer on this before doing anything else.

Okay, will do. I have another problem, which I didn't used to have early on, but recently (before I started messing with drivers) my ModernWarfare 3 didn't trigger the Perofrmance mode (7970M). I added it manually to the Switchable Graphics, but when I launch it it always changes to Unassigned. Anyone know a fix? Also my other problem still persists. It's a DVI-D cable, 120Hz monitor, but I only get 60Hz, would a change to Nvidia definetly solve it? I mean more help I get here, less I have to ask them on the phone :D

The monitor you have is compatible with NVIDIA 3D vision, you should be able to game in 3D with an nvidia gpu however replacing the gpu will be expensive considering you got HD 7970m. Are you looking for 120hz in 2D mode or you want to enable 3D gaming?

I want to run games at 100-120Hz. I don't really care about 3D, will go to the cinema for that :p

Here it says that 3D works with my card (well if the XXXXM versions have the same applications)
http://www.amd.com/us/products/technologies/amd-hd3d/Pages/3d-desktop-graphics.aspx#2

But my monitor isn't listed on that 3D monitor list, ASUS VG236 :( But surely that doesn't mean I can't make it run at 120Hz, that is ridiculous.
