Vortex IV LE - GPU issues.

I've only owned this laptop for a couple of days and I'm experiencing some issues with the GPU and I considering returning it.

I've had Windows 7 64bit installed and did some game testing and was very pleased. Was getting 45-55FPS on BF3 on high and getting 55-60fps on Chivalry on High and also best was Metro Last Light and was getting 45ish FPS on high and was all good.

Day later and all the FPS I had before had been halved. BF3 25fps and even on low was getting only around 30fps same for other games. I've checked the temperatures and I noticed regardless of the games I played the GPU was sat at 40-42c which is rather cool basically idle temp.

Installed Windows 8 Pro and redid the drivers and installed my games again. Same problem low FPS on all. I started suspecting that the GPU isn't being used even after selecting it in the NVidia Control Panel to be used.

I did a experiment, tried BF3 was getting low FPS on NVidia GPU in the control, went back and select Integrated graphics and had the exact same performance.

and then this happened....

Please help.

Did you install/update any drivers after you did some game testing?

Yes I did. I tested with the GPU drivers that came with the drivers DVD you get with the laptop and then tried with installing latest from NVidia website and did restart after.

The GPU is 765M by the way and processor is the Intel 4700MQ processor.

On the face of it this sounds (and looks from the pictures) like a hardware issue. But before you call PCS and get it RMA'd it might be worth doing a clean re-install of Windows 7 64-bit with just the drivers on the PCS-supplied disk. I'm suggesting that because for a while at least it worked fine with that OS and drivers. So if it works ok then your problem is a driver issue, of course if you still get these issues even after the Windows 7 64-bit re-install it's almost certainly a hardware issue. In which case you need to call PCS. That will be very disappointing I know, but stuff happens....

Visual artefacts such as those shown in the two attached pictures is normally linked to VRAM issues.

As above try a reinstall but if that persists or even just shows again I would look at the return/replacement route.

I'll try this and reinstall Windows 7 and use just the disc drivers. I've been playing around with it today and it's still doing it. I've emailed PC Specialist in regards to this thread, but I won't get a reply till Tuesday so it gives me time to test.

Right I just finished redoing Windows 7 again and used the drivers that came with the laptop and did some more game testing. Same issue, Metro Last Light on High getting 15-20fps CPU 55-60c and the GPU is only 40c so as before just idle temps. Battlefield 3 25-30fps and again GPU is idle 40c. So basically the issue I have that the GPU isn't being utilized.
