Vortex Options

Need to replace my Octane 2 as the graphics card has failed.

I'm interested in the vortex.. there are 2 options, however. The 240hz one seems is about £70 more. Is it worth it? I'm assuming that the 240hz model won't have g-synch.

Any other thoughts on the spec appreciated.

The points are:

Would you benefit from 240Hz? Most people wouldn't notice the difference from 144hz to 240hz, it's only really competitive players that would consider them. It's only really 1PS games like CSGo where this would be beneficial and again, only really in a competitive setting.

The RTX2070 wouldn't be able to push 240fps on most games anyway, certainly not a year down the line.

If you're a normal gamer wanting to play demanding titles, GSync would give the laptop much longer lifespan and still be butter smooth even when the gpu is struggling to achieve 60fps. Since first moving to gsync a couple of years ago (4k 60Hz) often averaging around 45fps, I would never go back to a non-adaptive sync screen, the benefits of gsync / freesync are just too important for longevity and satisfaction.

So in summary, I would highly suggest the 144hz with GSync for longer satisfying gaming experience on 99% of titles.

The build looks well balanced, otherwise, looks like a really nice build. The Vortex would be my choice for a gaming laptop also.

Thank you! I was struggling to see the benefit of a 240hz.. I'm certainly not a competitive gamer.at 48 my reactions are far too slow :)

Yeah, I'd be the same, I notice a huge difference going up to 144Hz, but anything over that you have to have superhuman reactions and vision.

It's really a very small portion of people who could actually notice the benefit of 240Hz.

Just one thought.. can I transfer the windows licence from my Octane to the new machine? It would save me a few pounds if I can.

Yes, if you tie it to your Microsoft account, you can move it to another machine..,

Just to add to the above, the spec looks very nice.

One concern though:

Memory (RAM)
16GB Corsair 2400MHz SODIMM DDR4 (1 x 16GB)
2 x 8gb will have the RAM in dual channel, which can improve performance in gaming. I'd also go with the fastest RAM on offer as that too can help bump performance especially in some titles. And you'll be keeping it for the lifetime of the system.

If the most intensive use is for gaming there won't be any call for 32gb RAM. Or do you edit videos or similar and know you will need 32gb for that but can't afford 32gb for now?
