This is wild that this works.... but it does, and I love it!
I love VR, it's my only real gaming vice. I have an Index setup in my "Games" room but that's currently going through a whole refurb so in order to get my VR fix I stumped up for an Oculus Quest 2. Facebook shenanigans aside I absolutely love it. It's a fantastic middle ground for anyone looking to dabble in VR and with very little fettling you can play all your Steam VR games on it via remote desktop (around £20, but a solid investment)
Anyway... there are a few games that I still like to play in 2D but the remote desktop functionality got me wondering about using the Oculus headset for the screen. It works flawlessly to the PC via Wifi, but I had an issue with my Bluetooth dongle so it meant I didn't have the controller connected to the PC.... and no way of doing it until the replacement arrives. So, what I ended up doing:
Launch game on Surface Tablet using moonlight
Controller connected to tablet and able to play the game
Launch remote desktop on Quest 2
End result, 500" screen right in front of my face being played through my desktop, controlled through my tablet but viewed through the headset as well.
This was more a play around than anything else but it shows just how flexible the arrangement is. I'm about to launch PC Building Simulator on the tablet, to then view through the headset and play via wireless mouse (again through the tablet).
For the value and flexibility of the Oculus I would recommend it to anyone. Create a fake FB account to avoid all tracking and just delve right in. It's fantastic.
Oh, recommend getting the deluxe head strap, battery pack and case combo too. It's decent value and well worth it for comfort & longevity.
