VR spec - For new to PCs

Hi there,

I’m another Mac user forced to looking PC-ward. Some friends have knocked out this specification and suggested posting it for assessment.

My principal interest is VR gaming, looking for something to accompany a Valve Index. And that’ll be relatively easy to upgrade as and when. With a view to also using it for illustration, probably some video editing, and exploring whatever creative avenues VR has potential for. Or just trying Star Wars Squadrons in VR should any HOTAS controllers ever become available again.

I’m assuming that if it can run VR at recommended or better, it’ll do pretty much whatever else I ask of it. But I’m not assuming I’m right about that assumption.

This is kind of pushing my budget, but if it’s a good setup, that’s fine.

Any help / insight gratefully received.

John

Not an expert here but not sure about that GPU, it might be "ok"

Which HOTAS joystick are you looking for?
Probably a Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS. Variations of which seem the cheapest of this kind of thing, while being supported by SW: Squadrons.

Thats what I have and it's "OK", it does the job but it's a budget (I've got the xbox/PC version). I've found it on Argos but the closest store to me is Chatham in Kent... I live in Plymouth so if I needed one it's a bit of a trek lol

Litterally joysticks are flying out of the stores as I wanted to upgrade mine but stocks are limited

I’m hoping that’s a different “ok” to the one about the 2070? I hope?
And yes; I’m also in Devon - and dang, there’s no HOTAS around to upgrade or otherwise it seems.

If you are wanting to go down the VR route, deffo wait for one of the MODs to double check your rig. If you get it wrong then you will be throwing up, not sure if it's motion sickness or what but some people get ill when the GPU isnt powerful enough to display the correct FPS.

Dont get me wrong, that Thrustmaster HOTAS is fine and it does the job. According to Amazon there are stocks arriving later this month for some other joysticks.

So a few things, firstly, Intel are now the really poor option for CPU's and platforms for so many reasons which I'll link below:

I would suggest the RTX 3070 for VR, the 2070 Super while being "Ok", is really only just going to be enough and isn't very future proofed.

The RTX3070 will be significantly better at the same price point.

AMD are just about to release some new CPU's on the 5th November which would be worth investing in also, they put intel to bed in all areas including single core gaming.

Interesting - thanks! I think it’s the lack of current availability that’s put the 2070 there instead of the 3070.
