Vyper 17 GPU thermal throttling

Hi all,

I've purchased new Vyper 17 about 2 weeks ago, specced with rtx 2070 super.

I'm experiencing an issue where in any game GPU jumps to 85 degrees almost instantly amd thermal throttles, causing significant performance drop in even old games.

Has anyone else experienced similar issue? What can I do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏

What are the cpu temps in game?

The GPU will immediately reach the target temperature, that’s a given on almost any gaming laptop, but it shouldn’t thermal throttle obviously.

Where are you seeing the throttling? Can you post some screenshot of your readings?

We need cpu and GPU temps on idle and under load.

Can you also post your full specs from the order page?

Hi Spydertracks,

Thank you for the reply.

Any game I tested, sees serious performance hit, I've tried WoW/Overwatch on Medium/ (both games are really old and not that graphically demanding, GeForce experience was suggesting Ultra settings for Overwatch), but I see the GPU clock down to as low as 300mhz.

First Screenshot is from the game, second for Idle state (I've got a cooling pad as well).

That’s only showing your GPU, we need the CPU as that will likely be the cause of any thermal throttling.

The GPU seems fine.

How did you install windows? What process?

How did you install drivers?

Have you got control center installed?

Are you doing testing on battery or mains?

Hi Spyder,

Please see below screenshot of the same scene with the same setting of GPU temp:

Windows came already preinstalled, I've just activated my account, could this cause issues?
For drivers, I've downloaded GeForce experience and got them from there, is there anything else I should be installing?
Is Control Center the same as Gaming Center pictured above, or do I need something else?

Doing the tests on mains.

Thank you, and sorry if some of the questions seem a bit basic, I've never dealt with prebuild laptops before!

That will be the issue then, you can’t activate the test image as it won’t be configured properly.

You’ll need to do a clean install of windows from scratch.

Hi Spyder,
I've done a fresh Windows install, installed all the drivers from PCS website along with the newest nvidia drivers, etc. Unfortunately, the problem still persists.

I have the same configuration in the Recoil IV chassis. Unfortunately the GPU throttling is unavoidable without undervolting and max fan speeds. Even then some really taxing games will make it it the threshold regardless
Edit: actually 300mhz is way too low, I was talking drops to between 1100-1300 on the 2070 super
