Was looking at a new mesh setup and discovered this!

So I was about to invest in an updated 3 x Mesh satellite kit, my go to is Ubiquiti who are more of a SME/Enterprise grade manufacturer. I was looking at their AP WiFi 6 Mesh which is a single satellite, but can cover up to 1500 square meters which is substantially larger than most home solutions. It's also waterproof so can be used outside powered by PoE, so this could tie in wirh the below if I have any outdoor space when I eventually move.

This would be to replace the BT Mesh setup which won't be compatible with the fibre setup, and I'll give my old 3 x Google wifi satellites to my folks as will suit them perfectly and I've become more uncomfortable with their use of personal data since I bought them.

But just as I was about to click buy, I saw this bad boy, and for the features it includes, it's very good value, cheaper than a lot of high end home routers.

This thing is really cool. Has an enterprise grade wifi AP in rhe roof which should be ample for the size I'll eventually be serving. It's full wifi 6e

Has 4 x GbE, 2 of which are PoE which is mega cool

Can add up to 15 Mesh satellites, OK never going to need that many but still cool.

Has native OS Management interface which includes a SmartHub for any IOT devices. Not so uncommon these days, but still pretty cool. Can be accessed locally or over in built VPN server, also seriously cool. Has 128Gb NVME built in for live camera recordings, not certain if that's user upgradeable (you can bet ill be investigating) but it also has SDXC card support for expanded storage.

Supports up to 300 concurrent connections, again, never gonna need it but will likely end up needing over the 50 that my current setup supports.

Downside is that it doesn't have a muti-gig WAN port, so only supports Internet connections up to 700mbs, but fir my uses for a while, that will be ample.

It's a pretty nifty package.

But keep an eye on this company, they are really shaking up the professional marketplace with their smart switches

Has it got you intrugued, or are you insulted by it's faddishness?
Just planning where to mount a DreamWall 🤣

I’ve got a couple of older devices that don’t like Wifi. They work, but for some unfathomable reason they only ever get about 1mbps if they’re more than 1m away from the router/hub, and so I just have a set of 2400mbps Devolo power line adapters to provide a closer WiFi signal and or backup wired connection.

We have them in our Head Office in London (5 floors, 4 wings), but hadn’t taken much notice as they’re ‘just another box’ on the ceilings (in the office areas), and on the walls (in the restaurant/shopping areas…along with loads of Bose speakers.

I like the Unifi range, they're well made, great feature set, and not too expensive. Bro in law has a unifi setup including cameras. My only concern with this Dream Router is if it will provide the wifi coverage you need. We all know how theoretical range goes out the window very quickly, so I'd want to be sure that you've no dead spots that require a second device to cover, making it very expensive setup versus say a TP-Link Deco

Yeah, I have considered that, but I'm looking at this as an investment into the ecosystem, it's a good entry level way of developing a far larger setup. Like your Bro in Law, I'd definitely be looking at security cameras included, and would probably get one of the AP's I mentioned to stick outdoors which would also blanket some further of the indoor coverage.

The place I'm gonna be getting won't be large, a small 2 bed cottage, or bungalow will be more than enough. I'm very likely gonna get a factory made property as well and plonk it on a piece of land, there's a lot of benefits to it, they're made to far higher standards than brick and mortar and a lot cheaper also. It's just working around planning permission and of course if it's going to be feasible land wise. But I'll rent for a year in the new location and work out if it's viable, hopefully in that time I can get to know the planning laws and what's available land wise.

I need to look into mesh setups. Our home wifi is absolute pants upstairs, so I typically use my mobile wifi which is fine for most usages, but using my phone as a hotspot means I have to cap downloads at very low speeds to stop my phone from overheating. Starfield is likely to take 10+ hours to download once its available to preload (13 days and counting for deluxe pre-orders!) if I cap downloads at 5 or 6MB/s!

I'm well aware these are the absolute definitions of first world problems, but it'd be nice to have access to faster internet speeds.

TPLink do some really good Mesh options at reasonable cost.

I'll take 5!

Really interested in these as I want a proper solution in my house. I might just get these for a trial and sell on what I have. Can't be any worse for sure.

The WAN is a bit of a shame but I would be happy with a gig for now. I'm on 500Mb so nicely covered for the foreseeable.

There's an EU Store link if that helps...

...but for the small premium, Amazon is probably a simpler path...and avoids any customs/duty/tax concerns...although you will need a UK plug as it comes with a Euro 2-pin one (the Ubiquiti EU store offers a UK version too, so I assume that means UK plug).
