What are my options for this setup? Video cable conundrums! SOLVED

I work from home.

I have a work PC and my personal PC.

The inputs for my work PC are 2x displayport 1.2 only.

The inputs for my personal PC are 1x hdmi (2.1) and 3x displayport (1.4a)

I use two monitors - my main one which is connected to both PCs and a secondary one that I only use with my personal PC. The second one is in landscape mode (it's basically for using the browser/discord etc when I'm gaming)

My main monitor has 1x displayport, 1x usb-c, and 2x hdmi.

My secondary monitor has 2x hdmi, 1x displayport IN, and 1 displayport OUT

This configuration means I have to use the single displayport on my main monitor to connect to my work pc - I had an hdmi to dp adapter to "free" up the single displayport on my monitor but this doesn't support a high enough resolution (it forces 1920x1080 which looks vile on my 4k monitor).

This leaves me with 1x usb-c and 2x hdmi to connect to my personal PC.

G-Sync doesn't work if I connect my main monitor to my personal PC via HDMI.

I thought I'd solved it by buying this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09HKL7M2N?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title which is a usb-c to displayport adapter (I checked my monitor specs and it supports displayport alt mode) but when plugging it in the connection isn't recognised.

I don't want to be chucking away £15 an an unproven solution every time. Can anyone point me to a rock solid solution to this?

G-Sync doesn't work if I connect my main monitor to my personal PC via HDMI.
Your main monitor has freesync, that works fine over HDMI, you just need to troubleshoot why that's not working I think.

Freesync has worked over HDMI since it was created, it's not a new thing.

It's a shame you didn't get advice with the above build, it's not at all well optimised, can't see a use for it in that configuration. I would personally cancel the order while you can and get some advice.

Hmm, yes, freesync seems to work fine. I'd still like to explore options regarding adapters that use usb-c or some sort of displayport switcher?

For GSync you need a GSync GPU and a Gsync monitor.
For FreeSync you need a FreeSync/Gysnc compatible GPU and a FreeSync/GSync monitor.

You have a GSync/FreeSync Monitor with a FreeSync monitor.

As @SpyderTracks has said. With the appropriate HDMI cable you don't need any adapters. It will work right out of the box.

I think there was a trend a while back where all GSync monitors became FreeSync compatible as well. It's a great technology so it was a shame to curtail it.

Just wanting to use g-sync over freesync, tbh.

I've sorted it though by purchasing a bidirectional usb-c to displayport cable.
I think there was confusion here, that monitor is not a GSync monitor, so wouldn't work with native gsync.

It's a Freesync Premium monitor which means it's a freesync monitor that has a higher band where the framerate sync is functional, but it doesn't have a GSync module which is a hardware module required for GSync.

So makes zero difference if you use it over HDMI or DP from that standpoint.

There's a lot of confusion of what is actual GSync. Gsync Compatible is not GSync, it's Freesync that's been branded as good enough by nvidia but has no GSync module on board. Freesync of any tier is not GSync either.
