What games will my laptop handle?

Hello,

I've recently ordered a laptop from pcspecialist, and I was wondering what types of games it would run, and stuff.

Chassis & Display: Voyager: 17.3" Matte HD LED Widescreen (1600x900)

Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-3630QM (2.40GHz) 6MB

Memory (RAM) 8GB SAMSUNG 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3 MEMORY (1 x 8GB) (I got 1 x 8 so it'd be easier to upgrade)

Graphics Card NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 645M - 1GB DDR3 Video RAM - DirectX® 11

Memory - 1st Hard Disk 1TB SERIAL ATA II 2.5" HARD DRIVE WITH 8MB CACHE (5,400rpm)

I assume thats all the details you'll need to know? If not just let me know :)

But yeah, what gaming can I expect to do? I didn't buy it as a gaming laptop, but I'll probably do a bit when I can.

Cheers :)

www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html There you go, pick your games and check what fps you'll get..

That page is showing the FPS of all the graphics cards in the laptops that notebookcheck has tested.

The graphics card is typically the limiting factor for gaming and is pretty much sure to be in your case because you've picked a high-end CPU and plenty of RAM, so we can say that you'll be able to play whatever the GT-645M will support.

notebookcheck's results for the GT-645M alone are here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-645M.81417.0.html. Btw, these should be seen as approximations at they are based on results from a whole load of different laptops with different configurations. Also, the card comes in two variants with different memory speeds. I don't know which PCS use.

However, with all that said, as you can see it's basically good news. You should be able to play just about any current game, although not on particularly high graphics settings and in some cases not at your native 1600 x 900 resolution. Games more than a few years old should be no problem at all.

Perfect. Cheers.

Also, I didn't change the Thermal Paste, so it's the standard one, however I won't be doing much gaming/virtually none (unless you class Football Manager as gaming, ha) will it be a problem with the standard Thermal Paste? I do use an external fan (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Cool...OLBI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1360877158&sr=8-1) to help keep my current laptop cool, and I'll use it on my new one too.

Its unlikely that you'll face any problems with your laptop just because you chose the 'standard' thermal paste :) I wouldn't worry :)
