Where can I buy the 980M?

Hi all,

I purchased a Octane II a few months ago and at the time couldn't afford to have the gtx 980m gpu in it so went with the gtx 970m. However I would like to have higher graphic settings with a constant 60 fps. Atm in gta 5 I get between 50-60 most of the time with drops to 45 fps in grassy areas with the settings max out except msaa. So I reckon the 980M would sit closer to the 60 FPS mark with the same settings.

Trouble is I can't find anywhere online to purchase the 980M gpu on it's own. Is there anywhere I could buy it from?

That's crazy. It's expensive and you'll get next to no resale value on the 970m. Hundreds and hundreds of pounds for a few extra fps in gta5?

Would you KNOW when it's 45fps rather than 50, 55 or 60 if you didn't have an fps counter telling you?

I would agree with Slim here....

It's not only expensive, but hard work to configure. You'd have to pay for the card (around £650), then install it, repaste and reseat all the heatpads, then you'd have to crack the bios which will void the warranty and install a custom one to recognise the new card.

You can buy the 980m and more specifically the proper Clevo 980m for your laptop (with the correct vbios), so it should be plug and play, thats if your competent enough to remove the heatsinks and gpu and repaste etc..

The downside is that the 980m is about on average 30% faster than the 970m, but at quite a hefty cost! They can be bought from over the pond (RJTech) but after exchange rates and import tax your looking at well over £600. You might just be better off selling your laptop and buying another with a 980m.

I bought a 970m for a project from them late 2014, it was the cheapest way to get a 970m at the time, and I had to wait a few weeks for it arrive.
