Which CPU for gaming/futureproof?

Which CPU would you suggest for gaming, the i7-2600 or the i7-980, bare in mind that i want the PC to last for around 4years at least for gaming .

not sure if the 980 can be overclocked easily, so the 2600k with a high quality water cooler should be better as you can overclock

Um, that had nothing to do with the question And overclocking is certainly not required to make something futureproof ....

To be honest either CPU will be fine for 4 years, I'd probably go for the i7-2600, but either would be fine.

I vote the i7 2600 aswell.

In 4 years time both of those CPU's will be feeling their age because they will be ..... well 4 years old. Which is quite alot of time when your talking about computers.
