Which SSD for laptop?

Hello,

I have nearly gotten my Ultranote 2 (should be here next week) and I am not sure which SSD to go for?

The Crucial MX100 256GB for £68
or
Samsung Evo 840 250gb for £80
or any other suggestions?

Is there any big differences between them? Is the software on the Samsung worth the extra £12? (I do not need to clone a HDD, installation will be from scratch)

I will be using the system for programming mainly.

Thanks.

Either would be good. The Samsung wins on all out speed and in my view is worth the extra few quid, but the included software is pretty worthless IMHO. I'd say Samsung.

I have 2 earlier models of Crucials and a Samsung 840. Personally, I'd go for the Crucial MX100, it's terrific value for money and what with the recent issues with Samsung Evos (that have been addressed in part with firmware - I'm also not sure if the problem also applies to the Pro and standard 840s TBH) I can't say I'm 100% as confident about my Sammy as I am with my Crucials.

It's your choice but, if it was me, I'd pick up an MX100 myself. In fact I'm quite tempted at the moment.

On that subject, the 840 evo's, standard 840's and evo pro's are all affected. 840 evo and pro range have been fixed, 840's haven't and doesn't look like Samsung is going to fix them.

Thanks for that ST, I wasn't 100% on whether the EVO fw was for Pros as well. Not sure my basic model is affected yet - think it may have to get moved along into another role.
