Morning guys

Early morning thread to try and sort my home Wifi out. PC from PCS (Awesome btw). I had a Wifi GO! card connected, last few days it's just packed up. They are poxy little things which seem overly sensitive, so i just decided to buy a new Wireless Network Adapter (Netgear N300 Mini USB Adapter) Loaded the drives, connected it to a USB port and everything seemed fine (Full 5 bars, button telling me i had 54mbps:scooter:) However the speed was AWFUL!...done 2 speedtests, 1st was 0.8mbps, 2nd was 1.1mbps...done a quick search, found i had 2 firewalls running (Norton & Windows, turned off Norton) Ping test - at least 1 fails everytime, mostly 2.

I've done the whole switch off, 10 seconds thing....restarted the computer, still nothing!
Installed some Windows updates, most are failing. Run all spyware tests...nothing...While i was at it i ran disc defrag and cleanups...still no improvements. I'm less than 30ft away from the Router, so that can't be the issue.
Sorry for the book, any help would be really appreciated

Cheers guys

Im not to sure what the problem is but for a trouble shooting excercise to rule out the ruter as being the problem i would connect the computer and thr router vie a cable and see if the problem is still there, if so it would be the router if not i would say its a WIFI problem, although the problem could either be router wifi or PC wifi.

If it helps, the wifi on my phone AND tablet is working absolutely fine, so it has to be a wifi issue with the PC?

I think first you need to try what SmokeDarkNight suggested, connect via a cable (they're cheap enough) and see how you get on. That will prove whether or not it's a wifi issue.

Yeah if thats the case i would say its a wifi problem, i take it you have the antennas plugged in if it came with any.

Other than that the only thing i can suggest is giving PCS a call sorry

Could be just a poor adaptor,Netgear adaptors dont get the best of reviews.
If possible return it and try another brand or alternatively,if you have a spare PCI/PCI-E slot a wireless network card.
Then there's always homeplugs, which would probably be even better
Homeplugs are basically a wired ethernet connection through your domestic wiring, plug one homeplug in to a wall socket next to your router then connect an ethernet cable from the homeplug to your router, plug the other homeplug to a wall socket next to your PC & connect an ethernet cable from that to your PC.Very useful if it's going to be problematic connecting directly with an ethernet cable.

Hey guys, sorry for the slow update. Connected a cable when i got back to my flat this morning, done a quick speedtest and WHAM!...12mbps (Nothing to shout about but a solid connection) Completed my Windows updates and went back on the old Wifi.....crappy as hell, even slower speed test results (0.6mbps) Absolutely unreal and so frustrating!...Will leave PCS a message and call them in the week. Cheers for the help guys
