Will my laptop be out dated?

Hi,

I recently brought an Octane II a few months ago with the I5 6600k cpu and the GTX 970m gpu, sadly the 980m was pushing the budget too much. I'm wondering if my laptop will still be able to run games that will be released this year at high graphic settings at 50-60 fps or will it struggle? Do you think games will advance graphically too much this year that my laptop will be near on obsolete?

it depends on the type of games and settings, it is a difficult question to answer since you are asking us to speculate. You could have a look at benchmarks online of games released recently and last year. For some currentdemanding games at ultra/high settings the gtx 970m won't reach 50 fps. You can always lower settings.

Will it make a difference whether the answer is yes or no if you already have the laptop? Just enjoy it!

I'm still gaming happily on a 680m.

You have a 970m GPU, it will render anything beautifully. When newer games come out that can't quite be run at max, I'm sure you'll find 'high' settings to be quite nice.
