Just wanted to put a few pointers in here as I know there's been some press about borked upgrades leading to a black screen/reboot loop.
First off, with regards specifically to my Derfiance 15.6" (bought last July), the fingerprint scanner and login ("Windows Hello") now works natively without having to enrol using the third party software.
From a bit of Googling, it looks as though problems particularly hit users with Avast AV and/or Intel Skylake based processors. Avast have rolled out an update but it may be worthwhile uninstalling prior to doing the upgrade and reinstalling afterwards.
For my own upgrade, I did the following:
Ensured I had an up-to-date image (backup)
Updated all device drivers and software (running Sophos AV personally) to the current versions. The only device driver that was out of date for me on my system was the NVidia driver.
I set any non-essential, non Microsoft services to manual / disabled (remember to note which ones you change!) <-- this one is perhaps overkill, but it ensures things aren't running in the background that might upset the installer
Had my BitLocker decryption keys to hand (text files on a USB stick in an encrypted ZIP, just in case). I didn't bother doing a full decryption as with 4TB of storage, even mixed across SSD and SATA, it'd have taken me too long, and provided you have the keys, you can always recover anyway.
Just in case, I would suggest having a bootable Windows 10 USB stick to hand as this can assist you with any rebuild/recovery. You can get the ISO and tools here
I would also recommend having your Network card(s) and chipset drivers downloaded and on USB stick too, just in case.
The upgrade went seamlessly for me and booted as normal. I waited a few days as I have read of people suddenly losing the ability to reboot.
I re-enabled the disabled services and so far I've had no issues whatsoever.
I did notice today, that a cumulative update came down overnight - I applied that as any other normal patch and it updated fine.
My touchpad problems still occur, but I have put this squarely down to Synaptics now.
Hopefully this'll help.
