Windows 8 compatibility...

Does anyone know where I could find a list of compatible processors for windows 8?

Its the features you require which is the stumbling block, NX-bit (or XD-bit) to be specific, pretty sure my Core 2 Duo doesn't support it and I'm wondering if there's a skt 775 processor that does?

Edit: Im going to try a BIOS update and see if it unlocks it....

I'm posting as a reply so it gets a bump....it may help someone...you never know.

A BIOS update unlocked NX(XD)-bit for my Core 2 Duo. So if you're running the update assistant for windows 8 on your machine and you get an error saying your processor doesn't support the above (so it won't work), then update your BIOS. Chances are you will now be able to run Windows 8. Unless your processor is ancient of course...

Good luck out there....and remember, if you update to windows 8 from an older version (xp, vista eg), it's only £25 until the end of January.

Last bump I promise. :)

As I'm downloading and installing it, I've noticed the option 'Install by creating media'. It will create a .ISO file which you can rip to a DVD. This not only means you will have a hard copy of Windows 8 (they try to charge you 8.99 for a hard copy earlier in the process), it also means you can install it whenever you want. So you could pick up the 25 quid upgrade, keep running your OS until its unsupported (if your happy with it) and do a clean install at your own leisure. Brill.

:)
