Windows 8 keeping dGPU active?

So I upgraded to windows 8 yesterday. After a few problems updating hotkey control center, it seems to be working great!!
But, today I noticed that my Nvidia GPU is active at all times (fans running and the GPU icon showing its active) but no programs are running.
Does this mean windows background applications are keeping it on? I had a driver update through windows yesterday for windows 8 is this the problem?? (version 306.97) for GTX 675M

Anyone getting this prob?

Actually only reading this have I realised that mine is doing this also on my 680m. the icon is lit up but says no activity and the fan is on. Strange. Doesn't seem to be getting any hotter so maybe its just a driver fault with windows 8. I had the latest nvidia driver before upgrading and haven't had another upgrade recommended since.

Is it showing discrete is always on? Have you checked your global settings in nvidia control panel? As a new OS it may need some initial set up you may not of needed before.
