Windows forcing Windows 10 upgrade

So, it appears that Windows is forcing users to upgrade to Windows 10.

Isn't Windows 10 cr@p overall and not just for us gamers?

Nope, not in my opinion anyway. I upgraded a long while ago now and have never looked back.

Don't see why it gets so much hate really.

Although I do think its poor form 'forcing' people to upgrade

Personally I've had no issues* with Win10 since upgrading in December (though I know a number of people have had driver issues - especially with NVidia drivers), I prefer it to Win8 - they nicely got rid of that Metro screen that I didn't like.

I've read that it's only free for one year?

Its a free upgrade until a year has passed since it's release, after that you'll have to pay to upgrade if you haven't already.

* Ok, one fan related issue that I've never got to the bottom of, but whether it is related to Win 10 or not is anyone's guess

I don't think anyone that upgrades is going to be forced to pay after a year. I think that is basically just suggesting its going to be free to upgrade for a year... which I actually thought would have ended by now.

I believe it is June 2016 the offer ends so anyone upgrading after that will have to pay.
I don't think it was a forced upgrade, they are moving it to the recommended upgrade option so anyone who has the default update options will end up installing recommended updates by default and therefore update to windows 10.

Win 10 on my new PC is great, no problems at all. I did however have massive problems upgrading my old AMD rig from 7 to 10. After spending a day rebuilding everything so my kids can use it, I have absolutely no intention of upgrading it again to win 10. There has been no attempt to force the upgrade but it does keep recommending it to me daily.

I reverted to Windows 8.1 some time ago (because of the Nvidia Optimus - Windows 10 issue mainly) and the alleged forced download hasn't happened to me.

In any case I treat all articles (and social media posts) like this with a huge pinch of salt. The reason is that despite the article claiming that "Microsoft confirmed" this allegation there is not a single external link to an authoritative source in the entire article. More specifically, there are no links at all to a Microsoft source. So this is really just hearsay, or sensationalistic journalism, or probably a bit of both.

The sky is not falling.

No problems upgrading to Windows 10 on 4 machines I have done it on in this household. If anything, it is better for gaming as it is a smaller overhead as an OS than earlier ones and therefore performs faster and uses less resources. Games seem to be performing just as well or better for me. No problem with any of them running.

Be sure to make certain that the pc you are upgrading is fully up to date in terms of windows updates BEFORE trying to upgrade. This will save a lot of problems. Once upgraded, turn off (in control panel) the ability for Windows update to install 3rd party drivers. That way it wont be installing new gpu drivers etc on top of what you have carefully done and similar with other products....i.e. install them, install their drivers, dont rely on Windows to do it for you.

Forbes writes a lot of click-bait articles that come up in google searches for obvious questions, and cater for tinfoil hat wearing people amongst the odd decent article. There is very little that should be stopping you as a gamer from upgrading to Windows 10 unless you have older laptop hardware that requires a bespoke bios installed that has never been updated for Windows 10.

Well your not getting a rip off thats for sure, the fact is win7 is about 25GB size & win10 is about 16GB of space on a hard drive unless you have choosen to expand your paging file to match your ram size of course.

You may find some of your programs may not work like for example "Tune Up Utilities 2012" as win10 is a little bit different code.

For me w10 was worth the free upgrade as you can install it many times on the same motherboard using different hard drives (i'm a bit indecisive when it comes to which HDD / SSD to use) & it still electronically activates itself.

Windows are just trying to promote their final OS & get all the W7/8/8.1 license keys back.

So, despite my best efforts, my ids managed to start the windows 10 update on my old PC they have. This time round it seems to have gone smoothly. The previous bugs with cortana and the start menu ether have been fixed by microsoft or due to doing a fresh, clean install of windows 7 after the last failed attempt at windows 10. Hopefully all will be well now, and hey the constant crashing and issues it caused allowed me to convince the wife I needed a new PC so I suppose I should be thanking microsoft lol.

My latest thing I did on my Gamer PC is buy win7pro - refurbished copy for £30 on Amazon, instal this onto my PC & it will not force win10 because its the Pro edition.

You get Win10Pro for the upgrade & unlike W10Home your right to mount iso file does not dissapear (or is it just me ??)

W10 is good for gamers because of Direct X 12 & it is 10GB less than W7/8 ect & you can turn all multitasking apps off in settings.

If your using Windows 8 or 7 you better stay for it for now. I have read lot of bad things about the Windows 10 just a recommendation.

Most of that is paranoia over the privacy settings. Most if not all can be turned off on the initial install anyway. The rest people claim is still happening is diagnosis and usage stats so they can improve most used features and create new ones.. all in the EULA and agreed upon.

Just an update.

Been running Win10 for some weeks now and I won't be reverting back to Win7.

Also fixed the sleep issue I was having :D

When they fix the NVIDIA Optimus switching issue I'll go back to Windows 10, until then I'm sticking with 8.1.

On reverting back to win7 absoluteley not ! to get my W10Pro version I had to install W7Pro & my god you do realise after about 7 months of using W10 how poorley put together W7 really is & how slow it is...
