PCSPECIALIST New to gaming PC's and want to know if my spec will be good

(To me) it's looks fine and you're getting a lot more bang for your buck with the memory, SSD, etc. There are tons of more knowledgeable guys on here who will probably pop-in to give you a second opinion :)

PCSPECIALIST New to gaming PC's and want to know if my spec will be good

It should be able to cope with most games but it won't do anything crazy like 1440p, video encoding is something you would have to leave to run overnight, etc. You can get more for your money though! 1 - Go for an AMD build, have a look at some benchmarks and choose the right CPU for you. An...

PCSPECIALIST Change anything on this build?

It may be worth keeping the paste - I added it to my 10900K after looking at its thermal performance, it's not good. It's going to need all the help it can get, in boost mode with a 240mm heat sink it will hit 100 degrees, the switch to the H115i is a good idea. Probably worth having 16-32GB...

This has been a fascinating chat!

    PCSPECIALIST Too excessive?

M2 is more like SSD V2, it's a big improvement. Those are all games with a very intensive single-core thread (bar the FPS) and tend to be CPU limited, this is one of the few cases where the 10900K makes some sense (well, to me at least - it's the reason I've bought one). There's a big...

PCSPECIALIST Need more grunt for machine learning

By RAID I should have said RAID 0. I investigated this when I bought my new PC, if you just use a standard RAID controller then you'll see about a 50% speed increase due to bandwidth constraints on the motherboard. If you go down the PCI-e RAID route you'll be able to get over the bandwidth...

It may also be worth looking at how well parallelised the code is. That will tell you whether or not to prioritise single/multicore performance when choosing a CPUI. You can do this pretty easily using performance monitor. Another thing that may be worth looking at is how much memory the...

PCSPECIALIST Thoughts & Suggestions on First Time Buy

You're also skimping on the memory there, when I looked at the AMDs I think I remember seeing that the motherboards for their chips can support 16GB of RAM at 3,600Mhz? Most games would be run largely in RAM with 16GB of memory, you should see a decent boost and a bit of future proofing.

    PCSPECIALIST Too excessive?

There are far more knowledgeable people than myself on this forum, such as spyder, so ignore what follows if they say something different! I don't think that PC would actually work very well and would tend to be very slow/unstable compared to even a mid-range PC. You have an i9 paired with a...

    PCSPECIALIST New Gaming PC!

That article was really handy - I sat down with a pencil and paper and came up with the current spec having about 150-200W of headroom when the 10900K and 2080 Ti were at full power drain, which means that the spare capacity is about 20%. There's nowhere near enough power for the 1080Ti as...

    PCSPECIALIST New Gaming PC!

Thanks for the advice! Time to go make a couple of changes - glad I ordered at the weekend when they're not working. On the RAID front I have RAID controllers on some of my other PCs/work PCs where it does make a difference on things like DBs/Video editing, etc. so I tried it on my last gaming...

    PCSPECIALIST New Gaming PC!

Thanks for the reply, the gaming I'm thinking of is Stellaris, Civ, Total War, etc. which are CPU bound to a greater extent hence my choosing the i9-10900. I know I'm splashing out a bit extra for a 3-5% improvement over the AMD top-of-the-line chip according to passmark, it's intentional. I...

    PCSPECIALIST New Gaming PC!

This is my new gaming PC spec, the only thing I'm not happy with is the monitor (it's a stopgap which I'll replace with the one I'm after once it's back in stock) and use the Ilyama as a secondary monitor with my 1080 Ti from my old machine (can anyone advise if this won't work?). I went with...
