Okay, I'll give turning off the case fans a go first. The noise starts at random times, sometimes it is before I boot into windows but sometimes it can take up to 10 mins. It can also occur while idled in desktop with nothing else running.

I disconnected the HDD but no luck, the noise is still there. Just to double check, is there only two cables that you have to disconnect from the HDD?
