Normally I'd advise against over-specifying the graphics card, especially since we aren't far away from the RTX 3000 series being released (which should offer better performance for the price compared to anything currently available).
In this case I think it's justified because your options...
Didn't register your comment about a monitor upgrade later this year. If you can stretch your budget a little then upgrading the graphics card to the GTX 1660 Super should get you to 144Hz at 1080p.
Here's what I've come up with. I would have preferred an X570 motherboard because they will support the next generation of AMD CPUs - apparently this will also be possible with a B450 but will not be as straightforward. I wasn't able to squeeze the extra £100 out of anywhere else, especially...
This is a tricky one because your budget is at the level where you could get a good system for 1440p 144Hz including a monitor, but from what you've said buying a monitor right now isn't on the cards.
The 2060S is what would be recommended for a 1440p 60Hz build, so it's a lot more than you...
There are a few things you should probably look at changing, but to start with can you let us know what your budget is? Also, will you be using this for anything other than gaming?
This would be where I mention the Inferno L2 review build, but unfortunately the case in is out of stock until next month and by the time that's back it's entirely possible something else in the build will be out of stock. You can't change the internals of it but it's pretty much a straight...
Ordered. Had planned to wait a little longer before hitting the button on an extra monitor, but definitely didn't want to miss out on a £100 discount on a spec like that.
A reasonable starting point would be this, but upgrade the graphics card to a 2070S and add the 27" MSI Optix MAG272CQR. Comes in just a few pounds over £1700. Unfortunately both the CPU and monitor are out of stock at the moment so you can't place the order just yet, but on the plus side that...
I've made some tweaks to the earlier build to come up with this:
- The 3300X is showing as out of stock until mid-July, so to get to the "post to forum" button I had to switch to the 3600. It's about a £45 price bump, so you can decide if you want it or would prefer to wait for the 3300X to come...
Just for clarity, is that £1200 for the system, with the monitor being a bit extra, or £1200 for both system and monitor?
There's nothing wrong with 60Hz but it is low for gaming these days, and the graphics card in the build I linked to is almost certainly overkill for a 60Hz monitor. I'll...
So for reference I think this represents the system you've built above:
Could you confirm your budget and what refresh rate your 1080p monitor is?
Firstly, would you consider an AMD-based system? At the moment they are a much better prospect - similar single-threaded performance to Intel, much...
Hello and welcome to the forum!
As you've noticed there aren't many options when it comes to 14" laptops, so the Lafite seems like a fair choice. Personally I prefer the 17" desktop replacements so I don't really know how to compare the smaller chassis.
If you can afford it (and your Python...
If I'm reading the specs right then Intel's 10th generation CPUs have turbo clock rates of up to 5.3GHz (for the i9-10900K and 10980HK). If you're running a single-threaded load then that's probably the metric you care about, so you'll get a roughly 10% speedup. The system cost will be pretty...
If I've entered your build correctly this is coming in around £1520, in which case it's time for me to suggest the Inferno L2 again :D
It's a review build so you can't change the internals, but there's a big discount on it that brings it down to the same price range as your build despite having...
Now that I look at this with fresh eyes I'm circling around to what I end up recommending in most of the threads I join, which is the glorious Inferno L2. I don't know why it wasn't the first thing I suggested. It's a review build that PCS have put together, which means you can't customise the...
Hi Clownspace,
That's a good-looking build, but there are a few things I'd consider changing.
I would suggest using faster RAM - I'm not familiar with video editing requirements so I'll assume 32GB is enough (and 2x16GB sticks is the best way to get that), but go for the 3200MHz or 3600MHz...
16GB is plenty for most cases. If you're running with that much or less at the moment and you haven't run out of RAM while editing photos then you should be fine. RAM is pretty straightforward to upgrade, so it's not worth spending money on parts you don't need right now.
I've got an Inferno on...
