You're lucky you have the desk space!;)
I have the Meshify C case. On Amazon reviews, there are a few complaints that it's hard to even close the case due to lack of cable space. However, PCS did an exceptional job at keeping things neat and tidy, and I can shut the case without problems...
Hi John. Thanks for sharing your stats. Since my previous post, I discovered that there is a Blender Benchmark tool, which is better for providing consistent results for comparison. The figures I gave above are for manually running it from Blender 2.79b.
The Blender Benchmark tool is here...
What sort of performance gain could I expect if I replaced the motherboard with an X570 and got an AIO? The budget isn't really an issue as it's a work machine. But I am really struggling to find any genuine evidence that an X570 and AIO will improve things.
As an example Kitguru benchmarked...
My boosts are fine. It gets 4.4-4.5GHz on single threads, and 3.7-3.8GHz across all cores.
Does anyone have comparable numbers for systems with better motherboards and coolers? It would be very useful for potential customers to know how different components can affect performance.
Single Core...
Thanks for your responses. I did some reading on undervolting, and given the risk/complexity, think I'll just avoid it. But I still think the build is valid.
When under 100% load I'm getting CPU temps of 70C (using either my actual work code, Prime95 or Folding@Home) when I set fans to 50%...
I changed the extension lead and Y splitter, but that did not help.
Using just a single fan and a new extension lead did not help, so I don't think a single fan is bad. Though both could be.
Could the BIOS have a broken setting?
Could the "Optimise All" button fix it? It tells me that I will...
I have just added 2 Noctua AF-14 PWM fans to my system stated below.
The 2 fans are connected the the same header. The ordering is as follows:
- Noctua extension lead connected to fan header.
- Noctua Y splitter connected to the extension.
- Fans connected to the ends of the Y splitter...
Can I undervolt my computer? It has an Asus B550 motherboard. If I do that will it affect the warranty from PCS?
The reason I ask is because it's supposed to lower temps. Today my computer has been running hotter due to ambient temperature. It was fine last night in the evening. But today the...
Good morning. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts on this. PC Specialist have just replied and stated that my warranty will only be voided if I damaged the system myself.
I've already removed and reinstalled the faulty fan without damaging anything, so am confident of installing the...
Thanks for sharing that. As you say, it's not totally clear. Given this will save PCS time and money, and that I'm not tinkering with the machine any more than PCS have already told me to, I'm hoping it's fine. Otherwise I guess I'll just pray nothing breaks for the next 3 years.
Oh, I was not aware of that. Under direction of PCS technical support, I have already removed and reinstalled the fan. So replacing it won't be any different to that. Anyway, I've sent PCS a message and hopefully it'll all be fine.
I contacted Noctua, the manufacturer. After doing some tests, they agreed to send me a replacement fan. They asked me to break the faulty fan and send them a photo afterwards.
Did you phone them, or use the enquiries form? I've just used the enquiries form, and am thinking a phone call might be easier as different people seem to reply.
I've had it for just over a week, and it sounded like that out of the box. I bought the silver warranty package. So the costs of sending it back should be covered from my perspective. But from PCS's perspective, it must be cheaper just to send me the replacement part along with installation...
Was it easy to convince them to send you a replacement? I'm having similar problems with a loud fan on a Noctua U14s heatsink and PCS have asked me to fill in an RMA form to send the full computer back. A replacement fan is about £20, which must be cheaper than having the computer sent back to...
I recently purchased a computer from PCS.
It has a NVME drive as the main OS drive.
It also has a 1TB SATA HDD for storage.
I am using Ubuntu 20.04
I can see the HDD as /dev/sda. It has 2 partitions in it. A 17MB Partition 1 and New Volume with the rest of the data. However, it is read only...
