PCSPECIALIST Bootup issues with new Monitor

Thanks Martin. What about BIOS settings - should I be concerned about losing any optimisation changes made there?

PCSPECIALIST Bootup issues with new Monitor

Thanks SpyderTracks. I did try these exact steps yesterday but no joy unfortunately. I'll give it another try though, just in case. I'm not averse to doing a clean install, I've done it many times in the past on my previous computer. I'm just wary because there's so much stuff installed that I...

PCSPECIALIST Bootup issues with new Monitor

Thanks Martin. I was thinking that, but was hoping I could get away with a repair, keeping apps and app data in place. Don't really fancy the pain of backing up all the app data. Plus there's a ton of preinstalled stuff that I wouldn't know how to restore. I'd also lose all the optimisation...

PCSPECIALIST Bootup issues with new Monitor

Unbelievable! I found the Display Port cable, plugged it in and it works! No beeps, no bootup issues, I can see the PCS splash screen. Tried it a few times to make sure. Everything is as it should be. :) Surprised tech support didn't suggest this, they wanted me to send the machine back. Good...

PCSPECIALIST Bootup issues with new Monitor

Hmmm, not sure what I've done with the leads that came with the monitor. I put the box in the loft but can't remember where I put the spare cables . I'm on the hunt for those as we speak. In the meantime, this is the cable I'm using - would this be compatible? Cable

PCSPECIALIST Bootup issues with new Monitor

Thanks, I can try that. I did get a cable for that with the monitor but I'd never heard of it so I just used HDMI. I'll give it a go, but surely it should also work using HDMI regardless?

PCSPECIALIST Bootup issues with new Monitor

Hi all, I took delivery of my new PC in late Oct, spec below, and a month later I bought a new monitor, a Gigabyte M28U. Case Send In Your Own Case Processor (CPU) AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Eight Core CPU (3.8GHz-4.7GHz/36MB CACHE/AM4) Motherboard ASUS® TUF X570-PLUS GAMING WIFI (USB 3.2 Gen 2, PCIe...

PCSPECIALIST What's the best 4K budget option for a RTX 3080 at close viewing distance?

This one looks great and is within budget, so I'm gonna go with this I think. Thanks!

PCSPECIALIST What's the best 4K budget option for a RTX 3080 at close viewing distance?

It's just the depth of my desk. If I sat further away I'd need a floating keyboard and mouse :ROFLMAO: So 32" is out then. So, I guess my question now boils down to is it worth bothering with a 4K monitor at only 27"? Or should I just settle for a 1440p?

PCSPECIALIST What's the best 4K budget option for a RTX 3080 at close viewing distance?

Thanks Steve. I was eyeing this one up, but I'm concerned about the viewing distance. Is it too big for 65-70cm distance?

PCSPECIALIST What's the best 4K budget option for a RTX 3080 at close viewing distance?

Hey all, I have a RTX 3080 and I'm looking for a monitor to do it as much justice as possible on my limited budget. Currently I have an LG 23" Monitor which only cost about £140 five years ago, so anything would be an improvement. Having blown the budget on the computer itself, I'm limited in...

PCSPECIALIST Performance Monitor giving bad readings

I bought a second one two months later. Hope that doesn't go the same way!

PCSPECIALIST Performance Monitor giving bad readings

That could be the case. As soon as I described the noises it was making he was absolutely, categorically certain it was faulty

PCSPECIALIST Performance Monitor giving bad readings

I just went to cancel the RMA, which neccessitated speaking to someone at WD. The person I spoke to said that the drive was definitely faulty and he strongly recommended I return it as planned. I said about the SMART data and so on, and he said rather than it being a bad sector the drive is...

PCSPECIALIST Performance Monitor giving bad readings

That's good to know - I was worrying that maybe it had found the 'faulty' area. Obviously I wouldn't normally fill a drive quite as full as this  I think I'm safe to cancel the RMA for now then. Really appreciate your advice throughout this.

PCSPECIALIST Performance Monitor giving bad readings

Well, I pretty much filled the entire disk as suggested: All the files I copied were verified at the point of copying and they were all fine. The disk stayed quiet as a church mouse throughout, even when I left it copying overnight for 15 hours straight. But right at the end, when I copied the...

PCSPECIALIST Performance Monitor giving bad readings

Currently copied 2.5 TB of data over and it's still running quietly. I'll see how it fares when it's full. Appreciate your advice with this, thanks a lot :)

PCSPECIALIST Performance Monitor giving bad readings

Thanks, that did the job. The drive is now cleaned and formatted. I'm not quite sure where to go from here. I've got an active RMA on the drive but the WD return process is a bit of a faff. Is there any way the drive is not faulty, given the issues I've just experienced? It would be hard to...

PCSPECIALIST Performance Monitor giving bad readings

I've removed all the data as it's being returned to WD, so there's nothing to recover and no issue with formatting the drive :) I've fired up diskpart but I'm not sure how to identify the correct drive from this list: It's 10TB, so it must be disk 1 or disk 3 but I don't know how to tell...

PCSPECIALIST Performance Monitor giving bad readings

Thanks Ubuysa. I'll look into that. But what is happening here exactly? Where have the files gone? They've been locked and completely inaccessible since Friday, and this was still the case last thing last night. Now they've vanished completely. I don't think I've ever encountered anything like...
