Thanks guys, that confirms what I hoped would be the case. But ,MS says that you could expose yourself to serious and harmful security risks.
Is that just rhetoric I wonder.
When I go into Word recently I get a message telling me that Support is ending this October (2020) and they urge me to pay for an upgrade.
But I am also using Open Office which I prefer actually. However I still have a large number of files, spreadsheets and documents in Word. What happens to...
Thanks so much Ubuysa, your advice is invaluable. The trouble is I am somewhat a novice when it comes to computer technology and am a bit afraid of doing much for fear of screwing up. I'll carefully follow your instructions in the link and see how far I get!
Thanks Ubuysa,
The version of WINDOWS is whatever was loaded to my PCS computer when I bought it a few years ago - I can't remember just when, but it's certainly not as far back as 2004. Anyway I will look to update it.
Another result of the Windows update which caused my printer problem: my...
Printer has worked fine for a few days. I had paused Windows Updates for 7 days, the only option. It is still paused, I just checked. Printer working OK this morning, tonight 7.30pm - problem back. On checking it out I found the defective update KB4560960 is back again!
Deleted it again and...
Thank you SpyderTracks, I will do that. What surprises me is that Microsoft, whilst clearly aware of this problem, are still sending out updates wit the faulty component. If we can delete than KB number then why can't they.
Thanks for all your help.
Would you believe it, the same thing happened again! Last night when I shut the computer down, a message asked me to Shut Down and Update. This time of course I was prepared, however there was no option to NOT accept the updates so I gave it the OK.
Today once again the printer was offline. I...
Thank you, Ubuysa,
I followed your instructions, opened Notepad, typed something, saw the print dialog box, saw that it was offline. I did not see this message before. There was no reason for it to be offline, that I could see. Then I tried something new, unplugged the printer from the mains...
Yes, I rebooted by restarting the computer and taking out the mains power cable for a few seconds. No change. Will probably have to wait for a Microsoft patch, as it's a known problem?
OK, well I found update KB4560960 and deleted it. KB4557957 was not in the list.
So, I did a restart, but the problem persists. Should I delete all updates in the latest batch (10.6.2020).
I noticed in that Betanews clip that only KB4557957 was causing printer problems and that later...
Thanks very much, Ubuysa - Yes, I believe there was indeed a Windows update before the printer ceased - maybe I could delete the update? It seems like that could be the culprit.
I tried your tip regarding the print spooler, went through the instructions, stopped and restarted it. No luck, the...
I have a PCS computer linked to a Brother DCP195C printer, which has worked well for a long time. Suddenly, it stopped receiving data from the PC. instead of the "receiving data" message on the printer it remains "100% Normal" message which is it's default.
I have tried everything I can think...
A few times this week I have been getting a pop-up message "This Computer is Not Running Genuine Windows", although I know it is genuine as it was installed by PCS when they supplied the computer new a few years ago.
Another thing is, when I try to shut down, I get another message saying that 1...
Just bought a new 55" Samsung F8500 Smart TV,which has a Web Browser. Found it impossible to use, typing one letter at a time on the screen keyboard! Bought a Samsung Keyboard, not a lot better, very slow and imprecise. Sent it back. Bought another make (keyboard + mouse) worked after a...
My PCS Computer is in my office at one end of our large house, in the lounge at the other end I want to install a new Smart TV with broadband connection. What is the best and most foolproof way to do that?
Have been looking at the BT Homeplug Hotspot 500 Kit, does these work well? Anybody here...
When I bought my new PCS computer in 2010 I retained my existing router which is a Netgear DG834G v.4.
I originally installed it so I could also use a laptop in another room, but seldom do nowadays. Anyway lately I have had a problem: on startup when I try to connect to the internet it hangs...
