Hi all,
Hope this is allowed by feel free to delete if not.
A friend has a very old PC and is just looking to get a graphics card RAM to give it a bit of a new lease of life. I told him to consider a new PC but he just wants to upgrade a few bits so....
His motherboard is: Gigabyte Technology...
So after random tinkering in cmd this has happened, despite my ssd being plugged in, so I’ve clearly broken the boot more than it already was!
close to throwing the lump of junk out of the window!
will post a spec on suggestion thread andget thoughts there. Thanks for all your help!
Hey guys, sorry for the long delay here. Managed to get the old boy back to one restart before firing up correctly (no longer receiving fan issue!) which I was delighted with! (I know, not what most people would say haha).
However this morning it seems to have died on me finally. Initially it...
Was hoping you wouldn't say that! :)
So I've spoke to them once before re this, and they suggested clearing the CMOS, replacing the battery etc.
If I call again, what should I expect from them? Obviously my warranty has expired so where does that leave me in terms of their support?
Thank you...
So I’ve just installed the new fan and still having the boot up issue and the CPU Fan error with RPM under 600 before gaining speed and powering on correctly.
Ive double checked its all plugged in correctly etc so does this now point to a mobo issue?
Thanks for the quick response Scott. Does that mean this Fan isn't very good or there are better ones available at that sort of price?
I'm not using the PC for intensive gaming anymore (only LoL and TFT at the moment). I am however running dual screens and also HDMI to TV for films etc. So I'm...
Thanks for the responses Scott and Abuysa :)
Yeah so the CPU fan is turning from the initial start up and is connected to the correct output (the same one it was connected to when put together by PCS). How would I disable the CPU fan check? And would this cause damage the CPU? (I agree though...
So I’ve swapped over the battery but no change.
I’ve removed and re-inserted the: graphics card, CPU fan, both RAM sticks, HDD,SSD, DVD. still no change. Is there anything I’m missing to check connection there?
Ive not yet got around to doing the thermal paste however with some more tinkering...
Sorry for the slow response everyone.
Over the last few months I have moved the pc downstairs and back up a few times, obviously am very careful when doing so but perhaps something has had a knock there?
I have a pack of CR2025 and CR2032 batteries, so I'm guessing I put in the 2025 one...
I've never installed new thermal paste before, how tricky is it? And what are the risks of doing it incorrect / poorly?
I've tried replacing the CMOS battery but ended up putting the original one back in as it appeared to be having more problems with the new battery in. Something I wasn't sure...
Great thank you for that Ubuysa.
Okay so here's what I've tried this time, using 5 attempted boot ups as my limit before trying the next combination:
- Removed HDD. Attempted to boot 3 times, fired up fully on the 4th. Shut down through PC, plugged back in.
- Removed SSD. Attempted to boot 5...
Thanks for the quick response and your patience with me Ubuysa :)
When it's bootloop cycling it never reaches the BIOS splash screen, it turns off before that.
When it eventually does boot up properly (which appears now to be randomly, not just after 1 failed boot cycle like at the start of...
So here's what I've tried today:
Unplugging the HDD and DVD, leaving just the SSD plugged in and powering on. It went through the boot loop around 15 times before I gave up with it and powered it off fully.
Unplugging all 3 and powering on, again it went through the boot loop continuously...
Thanks for your responses guys.
Ive been playing around with it this morning and at one stage it was just refusing to turn on at all, stuck in an endless booting loop.
It's now operating but it's no longer just doing one re-boot on initial start up, it's doing 2-5 times or it gets stuck in...
So I tried doing what I think is clearing the CMOS but moving the pin from the first two pins to the second and third, waited 10 seconds, moved back to 1-2 and booted up but had the same issue (boots up, powers off, boots up).
Then I tried removing the CMOS battery, moving the pin to 2-3, waited...
Hey sorry for the very late response but thank you for both getting back to me.
@ubuysa Unfortunately I'm not overly tech savvy on the software/hardware side of PCs so I'm not entirely sure how I'd go about the clean install of Windows from bootable media / partition structure. Do you have a...
It's about 7 years old now and here's a screenshot of Core Temp after booting:
I never noticed any issues when I'd installed the SSD, only seems to have problems recently :(
Is it perhaps something to do with the PSU?
Hey, sorry yes it's a PCS build, order below.
Only change is I've added a 256gb SSD:
Crucial CT256MX100SSD1 MX100 256 GB SATA 2.5 Inch 7 mm (with 9.5 mm Adapter) Internal Solid State Drive
Thank you!

Hi all,
Having a few strange issues with my computer lately.
Firstly, when turning it on, it lights up as if booting up correctly but then it powers off. This all happens in about 1-2 seconds after pressing the power button. Once it powers itself off, it then powers back on after a 2-3 second...
Hey guys,
I’ve just purchased a new 4K TV (LG 49SJ81) and plugged in my pc via HDMI as I used to with my old TV however when I do, it won’t let me go above 1920x1080 resolution.
I have a GTX 570 graphics card and from research it seems this doesn’t support 4K?
I’ve also read it may be because...
