£1000 budget for 1st gaming PC

I think Ekans2011 misunderstood what you were asking for, I got one for £1500 and it's more than enough. He clearly didn't want to comment anything useful and wanted to boost his own fragile ego. I'm not very good with computers so cannot help but someone will be able to recommend something to suit your needs at your price!

@Ekans2011 is right on the money actually, obviously you others baselessly defending what you don’t understand may think that buying into an over 4 year old platform is a wise investment, if you’re doing so, a £1000 pc actually costs you £2000 straight away when you factor in the expected lifetime, that’s aside from the poor experience that it would have out of the box and the fact you can’t upgrade it.

So you’re essentially paying out 1440p money for a 720p system that you have to throw away after a couple of years.

Of course, now I totally understand how right you two are, silly me!

So rather than doling out poor advice on things you don’t understand, why not actually ask questions of someone who clearly knows a lot more than you do if You don’t understand their reasoning.

But again, I don't think you've understood the request, he hasn't asked for someone to come back and say this isn't possible, he is looking for someone to give advice. It is possible, you've just said it is, just didn't say it's futureproof. Nothing is. Instead of trying to be a condescending know it all, why not offer advice on what the poster has asked.

What advice can I give other than the OP doesn't enough budget for an entry level custom PC, we can only advise on PCS systems, and the OP can't afford one.

Urm, no, clearly you have an issue understanding basic IT Principles, a throwaway system that performs poorly out of the box is not considered a viable product.

In other words, what's the best pc build I can get for £1000
You can't in a custom PC, nowhere near possible at that budget. You'd need to look at second hand or clearance of old generation off the shelf systems.

I think it's more to the point you haven't understood the accurate advice that's been already given, it seems to be a comprehension issue from your side.

There we go, there is some actual advice rather than just thinking you're the boy. Rather than being discouraged by these people though, do a bit more digging and listen to other opinions. These are making it sound like you need to spend upwards of 2k to have a half decent custom PC, as we both know by experience, this isn't the case. The snobbery in the IT world is insane, you can get something for what you want, just need to do some digging. Don't let these ruin the experience for you

So why aren’t you giving advice then for a 1440p system for £1k? Obviously you have some magical supplier selling current parts at 50% discount, why not give the OP a system based on that?

I find it really funny that @Backers92 was given similar advice when they ordered and actually listened and cancelled their first purchase, and both of you haven’t mentioned a peep since roughly the same time in February this year and suddenly you’re promising the earth without any evidence and badmouthing a long standing contributor to the forum

Could run most games at 1440 over 100fps for just over 1k but you seem to think you have to spend 2k+ on a rig?

I just don't get it.

I've offered about as much advice as you both have to be honest. You've said he can't do it, I've said he can he just needs some proper help. Something you clearly can't offer and I've never said I have. You just need to put your ego aside for a little bit. I just feel bad for him because when I put my original post up and got my PC, I got actual help. Didn't get shot down instantly, someone told me what I can get in my budget so I could decide if it's what I wanted. If youre the expert, give him something, if it's bad, he can decide if he wants it or not. Not your decision.. don't have to let your ego get in the way and think people can't have fun on a computer unless they treat it as a lifetime investment. If he wanted financial advice, he wouldn't post on PC specialist.

I have offered knowledgeable advice, and given clear steps to either save up more, or to buy second hand or old stock of the shelf

You may not understand but that's far more honest and better advice that leading someone astray thinking they can get a 1440p gaming system for £1k

Your advice will make them purchase something that will either break within a few months from a dodgy amazon reseller, or buying something vastly inferior that they can't upgrade and have to replace after a couple of years.

I have no issue saying when something isn't in the buyers best interest, those who don't understand computers think any configuration is suitable for their purpose, just doesn't work that way, each component has to match their use case.

Seems like you're finally offering a bit of advice. He asked for something, didn't get it. Still isn't getting it, maybe someone can give him what he wants but it clearly isn't you. I'm not telling him to buy it, am I. That's his decision, but atleast if he got something he can look it up and make a decision, end of the day, it's his call. Not your call. I appreciate what you're saying that you don't want to encourage him to buy 2nd hand or whatever but again, this isn't what he has asked for. It definitely doesn't mean he is going to buy the 1st thing that he gets offered. Hope he gets some actual decent advice on the PC rather than all this negativity anyway

I just don't get it.
When you say...
Could run most games at 1440 over 100fps
...do you mean 'most older games that don't need lots of VRAM', or 'most triple-A games from the last 12 months', or 'most games from the last 12 months on low settings'?

If we're talking about recent, triple-A games at 100fps at 1440p, such as:
  • Black Myth Wukong
  • Alan Wake 2
  • Star Wars Outlaws
  • Stalker 2
  • Last of Us Pt1
  • RDR2
...then no, not even with DLSS on (FYI I just about get 100FPS on an 7800X3D and RTX4090 in some of those above).

If we're talking about COD, Fortnite, GTA, PUBG then an Intel 12100F with a GT710 would probably run them...but then we'd probably advise against that option too.
