Hi, I'm after a spec check please. I've read many of the other threads requesting similar and chosen a spec that seems (to me at least) to follow recommendations for 1080p gaming plus a bit of future proofing.

My budget is around £1600

Looks good to me. The 7900 GRE is realistically overkill for your use, but it is a very good price. If I were you I'd double my secondary SSD to 2TB, but you could always add that later if you wanted to. Otherwise I wouldn't suggest any changes.

I would definitely opt for a 2TB secondary, MSFS can get properly up there in size on it's own (I think mine is around 550GB).

I would strongly recommend the 7800X3D, I would actually reduce the GPU if the budget can't make room for it. It has a massive impact in MSFS along with most of the games that you have mentioned.

Thanks for the additional comments.

As per both recommendations I've updated the secondary drive to 2TB.

if i change to the 7800X3D then to stay in budget i need to drop the GPU to either a 16GB AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT or an 8GB Asus Dual Geforce RTX 4060.

Do either of those GPUs make sense or should I try to find some extra budget somewhere?

The 7600 XT is great for 1080p but the whole crux is MSFS as it'll take anything you can throw at it.

In your shoes I would probably opt for the 7600XT and save for a future GPU upgrade down the line :)

I’m not an expert in graphics cards, so will let others comment if this would make a difference to the card you can afford. If can transfer your windows license from a previous PC, that would save about £100 giving a little more back in budget. Even if it doesn’t help now, it’s still £100 saved!

Thanks - that sounds like a good idea so I'll investigate if it's something that I can do.

That would help the budget for sure - so if it something I can do then am I best spending it all and going for:

7800x3d + 7900 Gre

Or still going for

7800x3d + 7600xt ?

It's a toss up really. It would depend on whether you want the extra GPU grunt just now, or whether you want to get just what you need and put the savings towards a sooner GPU upgrade (which will bring performance and any new technologies).

There's no real wrong answer with this setup.

Thanks for your reassurance that I can't go wrong either way, I appreciate your advice.

I plan to purchase on Sunday so that gives me three days of continuously changing my mind on whether to go 7600 or 7900. I probably won't make a final decision until I complete the order - and even after that have doubts that I've made the right one! 😅

Well, it looks like price fluctuations have made my decision on gpu. Following my original link now has the system priced at £100 more before I make cpu and storage changes. So I think the 7800x3d + 7600xt will be the one for me.

Thanks again for everyone's help.
