144Hz monitor for gaming and photo editing (AMD build)

With me ordering a new AMD desktop, I may look into buying a 144Hz monitor in the future.

CPU: Ryzen 9 5900x
GPU: 12GB RTX 3060
RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3600MHz (2 x 16GB)

Current monitor is an AOC 2250W 60Hz, bought from PCS in 2013.

24" maximum size due to space on my desk.
Budget is £200 but may be stretched.
Monitor will be used for gaming, and photo editing.

I'm only 'window shopping' at the moment, and won't buy anything until I'm happy with the choice of monitor that will suit my needs.

Even though I said I didn't want anything larger than a 24", I'll see what people suggest.

Would I be able to choose a 1440p monitor?

Monitor can be bought elsewhere than PCS.

The 3060 is a 1080p card, so 1080p monitors would be optimal at 24"

This is a really strong monitor and has had quite a heavy discount on price making it really worthwhile, I think it's amazing value:

The step up from 60fps to 144 is significant, you really do notice an immediate difference.

1440p would be a far better experience generally, but you'd still gain a lot moving up from your current monitor. As it stands the build will be bottlenecked which is a shame, you could have stepped down quite significantly on the GPU.

Oh Christ, I just looked up your current monitor. It's a TN panel at 60Hz and 21"?

Seriously, upgrade, even outside of gaming for Photo Editing it will bring MASSIVE returns. The colour accuracy, clarity and brightness of IPS over a TN panel IS ABSOLUTELY HUGE

From my build thread, I was thinking that the 3060 would be 1440p compatible because no one said anything about it.

@Martinr36 Mentioned a B550 motherboard with a 3060 Ti. (3060 ti is out of stock)

If I was to reconfigure the build, what could I do to make it into a 1400p build?

We built a 1440P system but you specifically said you wanted 1080p and 24"

You'd just need a minimum of a 3060ti, nothing else needs changing

The monitor seems ok, But not sure about the lack of contrast or the fading for photo editing

I'll leave the 3060ti for now, and I'll upgrade to it when money and stock allows

It's literally the worst of the worst. It was a budget option about 15 years ago. But even then it wasn't suitable for what you're using it for.

You won't appreciate just how bad your configuration is until you experience what is available.

@SpyderTracks I think I was a little confused about your reply, which is why I wrote that.

After some YT videos, I'm now looking at
  • Benq EX2510 Mobiuz, 24"
  • MSI G242 Optix, 24"
  • Gigabyte G27F 27"
All are 1920 x 1080 and at 144Hz

Would 1080p look ok with a 1440 monitor? (144Hz). Then I can future proof the monitor if and when I upgrade the graphics card to a 3060ti ?
