15.6" Cosmos IX - Excellent value

Coming from a Surface Laptop 2, the bar was set pretty high in terms of looks and efficiency, but this laptop delivered far better than I could've imagined. The laptop, whilst being thicker, is still managable in my backpack and remains fairly light compared to other systems with the same specs that are prebuilt. It still keeps a nice heft seeing as the chassis is plastic, which was one of my concerns when choosing this laptop. However, it is stable with little to no deck flex. The fans seem to be a topic of interest on these forums so I'll say this: they ramped up once initially when I was installing updates and all my software etc etc and did so quite sharply and were quite loud. It hasn't done it since, and you can tune the fan curve yourself to whatever you're comfortable with. Battery life is exactly what I expected from it's size, about 4hrs depending on what you're doing, which really isn't a concern for me seeing as I'm always near a plug. The charger is beefy and charges relatively quickly although I haven't timed it yet. The TN panel here is one of the best I've seen, better than my IPS desktop monitor. Colours look great (I'm no colour scientist but they look nice!) and the response time is welcome change from the 60Hz life I've been so far living. The keyboard and I/O are also excellent, Overall this laptop is excellent however you configure it, and comes in around £200 less than most other mainstream laptops with the same spec whilst also being thinner. To boot, PCSpecialist have excellent service and quickly shipped out my item.

Thanks very much for the review and glad you're happy with it.

It does seem that on this generation of Intels, the CPU and GPU run very OTT until all drivers and updates are applied and then it settles down, it's kinda strange, would like to investigate that more.

I'm quite intrigued by the cooling setup on that chassis, from the picture of the underside, those cooling lanes are really thick, quite impressive.

Yeah that was pretty impressive to me when I first unboxed it, the sheer amount of copper under that chassis is impressive. Also I'll have to concur about the drivers etc etc, I just guess that it assumes worst case scenario until all the updated drivers are installed a bit like a car when a sensor is out.

Thanks a lot for your short review! You mentioned the fan noise briefly. So in general, are the fans on Desktop, basic websurfing or watchting Youtube/Netflix still on or completely off?
That would be an important aspect for me.
Would be splendid hearing from you!

Desktop and websurfing you'll be fine! They're totally off or they were on so quiet I couldn't hear them. Same goes for Netflix and YouTube too just make sure you've got good airflow all round etc like you normally would. In the hotter weather we've been having I've noticed them more in a couple of occasions but nothing jet like. Hope this helps :)

Going to be brutally honest with you, I really haven't had time to start gaming with it, but the fan curve is fairly aggressive so I'd say it would be fairly loud, but it can be tuned. I've managed to play a light sim game so far without much fan noise but it's hardly a benchmark.

ok thanks again! really appreciate it. I mean gaming laptops are under load generally quite loud, so I am fine with that. More important for me is a silent laptop while using office, internet, youtube etc. And according to you, this one is supposed to be pretty quiet

Yes indeed it is for what I've used it for so far. One important thing to note is the fans can ramp up slightly when you use and charge due to the extra heat. Doesn't always but has for me

What I am still curious about are the display brightness and also the wifi performance. How are these 2?

WiFi performance is excellent, so is the ethernet. I haven't used it in direct sunlight yet but I rate the screen, the brightness is pretty average when cranked. Don't find myself any more than half brightness in doors.

I see it has only a 120 W AC Adaptor. Isit sufficient so far for or do you think laptop can shut down due to power issues?

Haven't notices any crashes due to power, had it both plugged in and on battery while I played DIRT and there were no issues at all.
Also has the benefit of charging pretty quick when you're all out of juice :)

Hey y'all, hope you're having a good year so far. I'd like to know if it's worth buying this laptop with an i5 10200H, main use would be architecture programs like revit, lumion, sketchup... I've seen many architecture laptops specs and most of them recommend an i7 processor, which I can't currently afford, even though some say I wouldn't have any trouble with an i5. What do you think? Thanks in advance for your response
