Hey Guys,
I've owned this laptop for a year or two now and it's been fine except for an issue with freezing. At first, I put it down to the hardware being new and later versions of the kernel would deal with the issue. I struggled to get any debugging information as it would just freeze without warning and with no logging. No kernel panic or anything just dead.
After about a year of putting up with the issue, I decided to try a few things and one thing that always caught my eye is thermals. I noticed the top of the laptop was always hot when this happened so I decided to set up some logging to see what my hardware was doing. So it turns out that the NVME is overheating. PC Specialist has already replaced one NVME and I didn't think to put the two together. Next, I bought myself a laptop base with some cooling fans to see if I can stop the crashing and that has improved things considerably but not totally. Under heavy load, the CPU seems to go up and in turn heat up the NVME that is also generating its own heat and eventually the laptop just dies. I've tried leaving it for several hours in a crashed state to see if it eventually recovers once the heat dissipates but unfortunately, it doesn't recover.
I'm just reaching out to the community to see if others may have experienced similar unexplained crashing or overheating issues with this model of laptop? I appreciate that these are not manufactured by PC Specialist but it's a fairly serious issue as it could lead to premature failure of components and data. The amount of work I've lost due to this is insane. It can happen at any point and there's no pre-warning or grumbles it just freezes. If I'm listening to music at the same time the audio will just loop over and over 1 second of what was playing until you hold the power button and reset the laptop.
PS: Sorry, I just noticed I've put this thread in sales and not technical support. Could someone move it for me?
