15,6" RECOIL III GTX vs VORTEX IX

Hello everyone, I need to replace my laptop used mostly for work (software development) and occasionally for gaming. These are the approximate specs:

- CPU: Intel Core i7-9750H
- GPU: nVidia GTX 1660 Ti
- RAM: 32GB
- SSD: 512 GB / 1 TB NVME
- Display: 15" IPS FullHD (60Hz o 144Hz)
- OS: Ubuntu

I narrowed the choice to the Recoil III GTX or Vortex IX and I am interested to know if you have experience with any of these laptops, with a particular emphasis on Linux compatibility (function keys, RGB backlight regulation, fans control, ...), and if you have any advice or recommended component (SSD, RAM, ...). Thank you.

For Linux you might want to read people's experiences here: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/forums/linux.32/

Also there is a collection of links in the sticky post in that sub forum.

The Recoil is a decent laptop and a bit lighter than the Vortex. The Vortex has gsync, a 144hz screen, and is probably more expensive.

So it depends a bit if weight is critical, and if you want to spend extra for gsync for gaming.

Thank you, weight is definitely not critical (my current laptop is ~2,7kg).

I'm an occasional gamer, so I am going with the 144Hz display (available also for Recoil), gsync is definitely an interesting bonus.

Thank you all, at the end I ordered the Recoil III GTX with the 144Hz display and WD Black SN750 500GB SSD.

I plan to install Fedora 30 on it and will let you know if I encounter any issue.
