16" Ionico or 16" Recoil

Hi folks, I am new here and considering ordering a laptop from PC.Specialists as they have come highly recommended. Trouble is I know absolutely nothing about this sort of thing so I am stuck in my decision making process.

I am considering either of the above for mainly photo and video editing but also some gaming.

I had a spec made for me by one of the team for the Ionico as follows:

Chassis & Display Ionico Series: 16" Matte QHD 240Hz sRGB 100% LED Widescreen

(2560x1600)

Processor (CPU) Intel® CoreTM i9 14 Core Processor 13900H (5.4GHz Turbo)
Memory (RAM) 32GB Corsair 4800MHz SODIMM DDR5 (2 x 16GB)
Graphics Card NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 4060 - 8.0GB GDDR6 Video RAM - DirectX® 12.1
1st M.2 SSD Drive 1TB SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 3500MB/R, 3300MB/W)
2nd M.2 SSD Drive 1TB SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 3500MB/R, 3300MB/W)

But notice that the Recoil is only marginally more expensive in similar build.

My question is, what is the difference between the two bodies? Is it worth paying a little extra for the 24 core i9 over the 14 core? I note that the Recoil is slightly thicker, will this help with cooling? Is there any specific advantage to either for photo editing purposes?

I did also spec one with 64 GB RAM ( 2 x 32) as it doesn't add that much extra but was advised this was overkill.

Could anyone here more clued up offer some comments?

Many thanks

This is the spec I was sent.

I've added a doc and cooling stand.

Laptop will primarily be used plugged into the mains and used for video and photo editing. I may also play some games on it, but mainly game on my Xbox series X.

External monitor is to enable a larger screen for photography purposes. I have a 34" curved MSI plugged into the Xbox for gaming, which I could also plug this into.

Warranty and dead pixel I think are worth a small premium.

Any help appreciated otherwise I'm at the mercy of Curry's or Apple (£2700 for a base MacBook Pro 16"). Is this okay or is it worth the small additional premium for the recoil 16" with same ram etc?

Thanks in advance.

I’ve always went for nvidia xx60 series, GTX 660, 960, 1060, 2060 and must say I always regretted it, because performance was far behind flag models.
So if you’re considering spending up to £2700, I would recommend to go for 4080, i9-13900HX for around £2400-£2500

Appreciate the response.

I'm trying to stick to around £2k total. So I could play around with the configuration and see what I can get for that.

Also, the primary purpose of the system will be photo and video editing with light gaming (I imagine) so not sure I'd see the benefit of the other one (but that's one reason I'm here asking for people's thoughts).

Just quickly put this one together based on the spec pcs gave me. That's £700 more than their original build. Is this going to make a difference for photography?

Hello, so, I'll begin with the differences between the two chassis :
The Ionico 16 is made by clevo, it has a vapor chamber cooling system, 2 classic USB, a USB-C, a thunderbolt and a mini DP. It can only offer a 4070 at best.
The Recoil 16 is made by tongfang, it has a liquid metal on the CPU and GPU, 3 classic USB, a thunderbolt but no USB-C and mini-DP. It can offer all the latest GPU (the 4080 and 4090) and it can be cooled by a water cooling system.
You already pointed the cpu difference.

It should be noted that the screen a good for game and photo editing, but it will be not as good as the retina display that offer the macbook ...

Next, my opinion about the two laptops, I think that the ionico paired with a 4070 is a "not bad" option, but, in the long run, the recoil with the 4080 is a better one (from what I saw about the 2 gpu).

Next, you chose 2 gen 3 ssd, or, the 2 laptops come with gen 4 ssd port, it's a "shame" to not use them at their full potential with gen 4 ssd (as the 990 or the 980 samsung for exemple).

The warranty and guarantee are definitely worth it !

If you go for the Recoil, I suggest you to take the water cooling system instead of the cooling pad. If it not yet available, wait until it come back and buy one ^^

Lastly, I think you should buy a screen from an other seller (to be fair, for this advice, I repeat what i already read on the forum). It's not that the one sold by PCS are bad, it's just that you may find a better deal somewhere else.
You may even find some nice Cintiq or graphic tablet (I hope that's the right term in english) ^^

So, here is what i'd got :

So, the water cooling system is not available for now, but you can use the laptop without it without any trouble ^^

I hope this post will help you ^^

Thanks @Tron1982

PCS did get back to me and state that the Recoil was more powerful but the Ionico was not as bulky

Your configuration looks great, just £583 over my realistic budget, but I will use it as a starting point. Perhaps start with cheaper SSD as most of my stuff is saved to cloud and external anyway?

What you can also do is to kept the 1st SSD and add an other one later.
After that, the "high" price come from the GPU ^^"
