I'm curious about this too - thinking about the 17" 1060 model, so curious if any of the overheating cases affect that version (the OP mentioned 17" 1070, but also the temperature issue seemed with the CPU rather than GPU).
Or on the flip side - are there people with a Defiance V 17" (either 1060 or 1070) that don't have these problems? This could just be a case of individual faults - when people don't have problems, they're less likely to post saying so.

17 inch 1070. The interesting thing is the Recoil II review said the cpu hit 70s max. So maybe that has a better cooling system.
I'm trying to decide if I get the optimus and drop to the 1060 or get a desktop and stick it in the corner when I'm not using. Can get more for same price. Its a shame about the defiance as its a nice bit of kit. The cpu and gpu should be on the right.

Have you tried undervolting it? And did you also consider (or maybe you have) the 8850h?

As mentioned in my post on another thread (here:https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/foru...eived-my-defiance-V-8750h-1070-Lots-of-issues) I would like to extend my apologies for the issues you have seen with your machine and assure you that this is not generally the experience our customers have come to know. Regarding your CPU temperatures, I would say that the manufacturers have been made aware of some potential issues that could contribute to what you are seeing. Rest assured that we are dealing with the matter seriously and are working very closely with the manufacturers in the hopes of coming to a speedy resolution.
For now, I would suggest keeping your laptop as cool as possible and following general steps to avoid running the machine in a less than ideal environment involving using the machine on a hard surface, allowing plenty of room for ventilation so as not to impede airflow, avoid running the machine for extended periods in dusty environments and ensure the balanced power plan is selected in windows as the "high performance" mode can cause undue stress upon the processor in some instances.
I will be sure to keep an eye on this in the mean time and will update you once we have news. In the mean time, please feel free to message me directly with your order details directly if you wish to discuss the matter further.

Recoil II seems to have much better design in the thermal management side, even in a smaller and thinner chasis. But it's worth noting by default it seems to have fairly aggressive throttling of the CPU when both the GPU and CPU are being used.
Would definitely get the recoil II if it has thunderbolt 3 though, so i could get an EGPU and stick my 1080ti in it.

I've got a 17inch 8750h/1070.
Repasted with kryonaut, cooling pad, still hits 90+ playing bf1 for 10 minutes.
Actually,the temps of the gpu are not good because it's well cooled, they are good because when it reaches 72°C the GPU boost clock gets disabled by the Clevo Control Center. So, as throttling the GPU clock to 1468MHz is not really a good cooling solution, we can't say that it's well cooled.
When you uninstall this software, the GPU gets normally boosted and reaches 90°C before getting normally thermal-throttled.

Quick update, we have received an updated BIOS for the 17" Defiance V and this has been confirmed to resolve the issue some people have seen. We are hoping to have this packaged ready for use at some point tomorrow.

New BIOSes are ready to go for the 17" Defiance. For anyone wondering, the solution has lowered the voltage on the chip which is stopping the issues we were seeing with high temperatures.
Rest assured that we have tested the performance for the chip after the BIOS flash and this is running comfortably at its base clock and turbo also works fine.

I’ve just ordered a Defiance V and I’ve seen these threads on here talking about heat issues... I’m glad to hear a Bios update now exists, but is this going to be auto applied to all new laptops going out, or will I need to install this when it arrives? Thanks!

I have the same question. Mine is being delivered today, was built 2 days ago, and would like to know if comes with new update or not. I hope so, what would be the point in delivering a laptop with heating issues? Anyway I've email PCS and reply was "To the best of my knowledge this has not yet been rolled out to all system as this is currently in the testing stage for us. Once this becomes the main BIOS for this system all relevant information can be sent out for this."
So I guess it hasn't been applied.

I've sent you my laptop a week ago through a RMA to apply that new bios and repair the bleeding screen. However, a week after the day you received it I still have no information about what is going on or what is planned for my laptop.
Is it usual and should I just wait and see ?

However the very reason of the post was "is it usual to wait more than one week without any information whereas a laptop is entirely built in 6-7 days."

It might not be usual, I'd probably expect an update of some sort within a week. But since your question was aimed specifically at a PCS staffer and as the forums aren't an official support channel, it may be best to give them a call as suggested above to find out the answers to your general questions and any specific questions you may have If it takes RobPCS longer to get back to you than you'd like.

Since this probably the most extensive thread aobut the Defiance V, how did it work the new BIOS?, heating issues solved?
As said on the other thread, I'll post a brief review soon. I have investigated about the temps, so far with the new Bios, during the last session of World of Tanks (mostly using the first cores), I managed to stay within 85 °C peaks with the CPU. Aluminum Chassis gest hot on the top left corner but no burn hand issues so far, keyboard fully playable.
I was wondering about a possible future upgrade with the new 9th generation CPUS, those will feature a layer of solder making up the TIM between the die and the IHS, instead of the cheaper thermal interface comprised of a paste with lower thermal conduction. Let's see
