17,3" DEFIANCE VII audio quality

Hello,

i bought a 17,3" DEFIANCE VII model, it arrived a couple weeks ago, and i was enthusiast with the display, the performance and everything, all in such a thin space.

Everything great, until we played some videos on youtube or music on spotify.
To cut short, the speakers quality is so bad that every higher tone played hurts the ears of everyone in the room.
It's cool that the volume can get very very loud, but as soon as i raise the volume above 15/100 it gets so disturbing that is impossible to listen for more than a minute.

I would have preferred a lower volume but a clear sound quality... after contacting support, trying reinstalling drivers and stuff like that, nothing changed.
If i plug headphones or earphones in the audio jack, the quality is very very good, more than expected, so i guess the sound card works really good.

So basically, my conclusion is that the chassis speakers are just bad quality speakers.

Anybody else noticed this problem?
I tried asking if it's possible to substitute them with something more valuable, i already have to send back the pc for some dead pixels...

Support said to ask when i open the RMA for the pixels.
Or else, i was thinking of buying 2 laptop speakers and make the operation myself.

What you guys think? Would it be a viable option or too risky? I really don't want to stay with earphones every time i'm at the pc, and external speakers are not a solution i would accept.

I have the 15.6 inch version and I agree the speaker quality when volume goes above ~20 is terrible, but tbh if that’s the compromise for the performance and the full keyboard and good webcam placement that’s fine imo. Not sure about replacing a laptop’s speakers, someone more knowledgeable would have to advise you on that!

It's hard to believe that it has been designed like that. I play with headphones and alone, but image if you have to show something to someone, or those players that plays without headphones... sorry for them :confused::confused::confused:

Tbh tho with loud laptops like this (because of the form factor) if you’re not playing with headphones it’s a bit of a strange one imo, just fan noise alone is a deterrent even if you have excellent speakers. My best advise would probably be to just get external speakers.

On any gaming laptop, you would get external speakers if you want good sound. Fan noise alone doesn't allow to use the in built speakers if you want good sound. That's on any gaming laptop.

I agree that the default speakers sound is crappy... But installing sound blaster atlas with for example the cinema profile and going in the equalizer notching out all the band from 500 to 1k hz the sound is acceptable / medium in my pc70

Bye the way
500hz => wave length /2 34
750hz => wave length /2 22 cm
1000hz => wave length /2 17cm
So half wave in that scrambled band is comparable with the cassis dimensions.. And that is the problem

Tampering with the sbx equalizer give quite nice results indeed...

How do you download sound blaster atlas? For me it says please connect a sound blaster atlas supported device, but I’ve downloaded the sound blaster drivers

My downloads don’t have Atlas, just SBX and that doesn’t contain Atlas just CreativeAudioEffects
I have seen discussion about that so that when you have all the drivers installed atlas popuos from Microsoft store.. (did you use a local account or a Microsoft one?) if you gather info Form pcspecialist could you share?

As I have installed a Win 10 2004 ex novo (as the pc arrived there was multiple driver problems)
Before that I have installed the drivers from folder 10_sbx and 11_audio
And after reboot..
... I have found on the DVD a folder
Options/preinstallkit/creative_sbc/creative. Sbccommand...
Launching installpackage or the file app bundle b0a15....
It will install the sound blaster atlas app, with that app you can use the equalizer to clean up the speakers response

The preinstallkt folder is intended to Be used by the oem on factory preset so use... At your own risk, it worked for me, but you mileage can vary :)

Yes, we've had confirmation from others that that method works. Good find (y)
